By Tim Parsons-
Tyson Fury referred to Deontey Wilder as an easy touch, after calling the WBC champion a pussycat, following an intimidation attempt by the unbeaten American at the Stratford Olympic Centre in East London. Fury was basically saying that he sees the opportunity of fighting a man just over 15 stone in weight for the heavyweight title of the world and over £10m as an offer he couldn’t refuse because the rewards match the risks, which Fury sees as small.
Fury looked and sounded confident, as he always does, at one point even accusing Wilder of being scared. It is hard to tell whether Fury always believes his own words, but on size difference, we can guess that he feels he has the physical edge to relish the chance of causing a big upset and becoming world heavyweight champion again. Wilder’s much lighter weight gives him an advantage in speed, but if Fury looses considerably more weight due to hard training, he will be very fast too, and will really go for it.
Wilder had turned to Fury at the London press conference and asked the gypsy man if he had ever looked into the eye of a killer . Tyson Fury “Have you ever looked into the eyes of a killer?”, Wilder asked.
“Plenty of them, Fury replied. I’m looking at a pussycat. Killers don’t dress like you. A killer is a silent assassin. You’re all mouth and no action. All front and no substance. A big hollow shell in a big frame.”Fury: “I always prove people wrong. Deontay Wilder is living on a hope and prayer. I’m back and better than ever. He’s banking on me only having two fights in three years, otherwise he would not have taken this fight.”
Wilder replied: “I would get no gratification from that. I want you to be ready.” The two boxers are on a three day press conference tour, starting from London, then heading for Newyork, before ending in Las Vegas. The promotion for their December 1st fight at the Staple Centre in Los Angeles is set to build enough interest to make this fight a record hit, with two giant heavyweights full of confidence in their ability.Fury is the underdog for this fight, but the unbeaten man is motivated for this fight and is big and tough enough to pull it off and surprise his doubters.
Not surprisingly, Fury sees Wilder’s much lighter weight of Wilder’s 15.5 stone as too much a weight gap for him to loose to the American. He told the packed press conference that no 15 stone man can beat him. Never mind the fact Fury was dropped by 15 stonne Steve Cunningham in 2013, he got up and stopped the American in the seventh round. Wilder hits harder than Cunningham, if Fury is fit and determined, the extra two stone advantage in weight could be a problem of Wilder who has stopped several big men heavier than him.
Tyson Fury’s last two fights are not perfect reflections of Fury’s all round ability. Fury, who could come into the fight fit and about two and a half stone heavier than Wilder, could make this a technical and messy fight for his American opponent, whom most people expect to win. When asked if he considered this a dangerous fight considering his inactivity, Fury replied:
“I picked him because he’s an easy touch. He’s a lemon and I’m gonna squeeze him nice and hard. I’m going to make lemonade out of him.”
‘I am savouring nothing, the only thing I am savouring is smashing Wilder’s teeth in. All the press are here to see the biggest fight of our generation, you are in for a treat.
‘I am in the mood for no messing around, no 15 stone man can beat Tyson Fury. If we fight 30 times I would win 30 times.
‘The thing is Bronze Bomber, you big dosser, you are not ready for me. You are going to f*** yourself’
‘If I can’t beat you, I’ll kiss your two feet on the floor.
Fury got up out of his seat and asked Wilder to demonstrate his punching power.
He added: ‘No concern, if you can fight, you fight. I picked this fight, Frank made this fight. I could have fought another 10 bums, but Deontay is an easy touch. I’m going to squeeze him like a lemon. I’ve been out for a year, now I’m coming to you, to beat you.
PAIN
Wilder then asked Fury ‘why did it take so long? You’ve been talking about this for years.
You could’ve accepted this pain. You’ll feel it in person. I will baptize you. You’ll feel the Alabama slammer’.
‘Can we have a little spar now (stands up to fight)? I want to feel the punching power’.
Wilder then pushed Fury, who responded: ‘My wife pushes harder than that you little b****.’
