Silsden Homes Suffer Gas Outage After Contractor Damages Main

By Chris Willaimson-

Silsden homes are currently without gas following the damage of a major gas main in the town caused by a contractor.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) said the damage was caused by a “third party contractor”, but declined to give his name. They said its engineers were currently on-site trying to repair the problem.

The gas main is said to have been damaged on a building site off Belton Road.

In an updated statement this evening, a spokesman for NGN said: “NGN is bringing in additional resources as engineers work tirelessly to rectify damage to gas mains caused by a third party contractor.

“NGN was first notified of the damage caused to the gas main in the Silsden area on March 30. Teams of engineers were quickly onsite to identify the location of the damage and support customers experiencing a loss of supply.

“With more than 2,000 properties estimated to be affected, NGN is drafting in additional engineers from other companies to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

“Teams need to access all affected properties to isolate the gas supply allowing for repairs to the mains to be carried out.
