As WBC heavyweight champion, Deontey Wilder, prepares for his toughest challenge so far, the unbeaten American has announced himself as the best in the world.
With 38 of his 39 fights having been won by knock out, Wilder has always been brimming with confidence that he the heavyweight division’s best. The brash and chiselled American reacted badly to an interview in which Britain’s Anthony Joshua claimed Tyson Fury was the biggest threat to his him. Wilder, who has described Anthony Joshua as a cow being milked by Eddie Hearns, told Sky sports that he was Joshua’s biggest threat, not Fury. Wilder went as far as stating that he was the biggest threat to every heavyweight in the division. He told Sky Sports:
“Everyone knows that Tyson Fury isn’t the biggest threat in the heavyweight division. Everyone knows who is the man in the heavyweight division, hands down. Everybody knows who has the power to beat anyone at any given time, in the first round or 15 seconds into the 12th round.
“I have that ability to do anything I want. I am the most dangerous man in the division, hands down. There hasn’t been anyone I have fought that I haven’t knocked out.” Wilder has been knocking out everyone presented to him, and in his last outing destroyed Bernade Stevens in one round after the Canadians went the full distance with Wilder in January 2015, when the latter won the WBC crown. Wilder looked dangerous in that fight, but will be against an unbeaten strong Cuban on Saturday night. His confidence has not dropped, and he is sounding ultra confident of victory. At a recent media work out, he told reporters:
“I mean what I say, I mean what I feel and I’m ready for whoever. Anthony Joshua will barely even mention my name. Well, I’m here and I’m ready for him,” he said at his media workout.”I am the best in the world. I’ve been saying it for years. Here is a big test. This is the fight that the fans have been waiting for. I’m going to pass this test with flying colours.
“I don’t have any worries about Ortiz at all. When I look at Ortiz, he doesn’t look powerful. I know he has nice skills like all Cuban fighters. That’s nothing to me. It’s going to be up to him to prove me wrong.
“I don’t want anybody to change their prediction about me versus Joshua after what they see on Saturday night. I’m going to keep proving people wrong just like I’ve always done. I love proving people wrong.“When it comes to the heavyweight division, I’m definitely at the top,” Wilder said. “Ain’t nobody knocking guys out like I’m doing. I don’t do TKOs. I’m strictly a KO fighter. I don’t have to have a ref to step in at times to stop my fights. You know immediately – the way I hit a guy and the way he falls, whether he’s shivering on the [canvas] or whether he’s sitting there, looking like he’s dead for a couple of seconds, that was a Deontay Wilder event. And that’s what I do.”
Meanwhile Otiz is looking forward to his opportunity to be crowned world champion. He said:
“I’m psyched and I’m ready for Saturday night. I have no worries at all about being the underdog. I will knock Deontay Wilder out,” he said.”I’m here for my world title. I’m here to win the heavyweight championship of the world. Winning the belt is the only thing on my mind.
