Deontey Wilder’s dangerous right hand KO power has joined the history books after he brutally knocked out Cuban challenger, Luis Ortiz on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas

The victory moves the American danger man to 43 wins(41KOs)and completes 10 defences for the athletic Alabama man, putting him on equal footing as the late and great Mohammed Ali in terms of longevity.

Ortiz put on a skilled display of tactical boxing, somewhat befuddling Wilder for six rounds before the American’s trademark right hand felled and dumped him by the ring. There were barely five seconds left in the round when the crushing blow to settle the match arrived without notice, adding to Wilder’s fearsome reputation as one of the biggest punchers in heavyweight history.

Already, the American, known for the destructive force of his power, is laying claim to being the biggest puncher in the history of the sport following the decisive punch that crashed any hopes the challenger had of becoming world champion.

EMPHATIC

Boxing gallantly for most of he fight, Ortiz feinted and threw punch perfect combinations, exhibiting sufficient mastery to let the champion know the former Olympian was a master chess player of the technical game. Though tentative, Wilder  persevered with his strategic pursuit of  a key opening to exploit, and conclude proceedings. When it arrived, it was emphatic and conclusive.

The American  followed up a relatively light left jab with a well aimed  perfectly placed right hand on his challenger’s head, sending him crashing on the canvas. Ortiz bravely tried to beat the count, but the bomb had dropped and debilitated his senses. He was counted out as Wilder and his team celebrated.

UNIFICATION

After the fight Wilder called for a unification heavyweight title with the eventual winner of the forthcoming rematch between Anthony Joshua, and Andy Ruiz Jnr due for December 7. He said it was confusing for the fans to have too many titles in the heavyweight division, adding that he is the man for the job of uniting the division.
