It is absolutely wrong for tennis star, Djokavic to expecting to compete in the U.S open in September, given the strict entry requirements in the U.S.
America has closed its doors to unvaccinated foreigners, and if the government were to change those rules for the tennis player, it would send wrong messages that the rich and powerful can get round laws because of their fame and fortune.
The shutting on the U.S boarders to all unvaccinated visitors was to restrict the potential spread of Covid-19 in America, after the country suffered one of the worst attacks of Covid .-19 during the pandemic.
Djokavic is already on record for disrespecting covid rules during his controversial short stay in Australia earlier this year, before he was embarrassingly deported after two court cases. He was pictured at a PR event with dozens of children the day after his lawyers allege he tested positive for Covid-19. He had already attended three separate events in his native Serbia across December 16 and 17.
The American government is aware of Djokavic, and all that he represents. This only makes it more difficult for them to change a law which according to them is necessary to protect the health of the American public.
If Djokavic is driven by the conviction of not wanting to be vaccinated for whatever reasons he has, he should by the same principle not want to see an exception made for him. A desire by Djokavic to be granted special treatment can be equated with selfishness. The only other alternative is for the U.S law to be changed before the U.S opens, for the purposes of including Djokavic in the competition.
Many of politicians and fans have sought to pressure Joe Biden into relaxing restrictions on America so that Djokovic can participate in the tournament, and that support has not gone unnoticed. Writing on his Instagram, the 21-time Grand Slam winner said: “I just wanted to take a moment and say to all of you how grateful I am to see so many messages of support and love from all around the world these days.
“I wasn’t expecting it, and that’s why it feels so mind-blowing. Just wanted to say THANK YOU. It feels special that people connect with my tennis career in such a loving and supportive way and wish for me to continue to compete.”
