By Gavin Mackintosh-

Three arrests were made after police discovered a large-scale cannabis factory, estimated to have a yearly turnover of around £2million, in West Yorkshire.

On Tuesday, officers gained access to houses on a street in Woodhouse, Leeds where  they found the factory and made the arrests. Yorkshire hasd become a hotbed for cannabis plants, rivalling most parts of the Uk.

In March Police in Calderdale have dismantled a sophisticated drug operation that ran across 5 floors in a disused building.

Officers were called to a property on Portland Place by Northern Powergrid on Friday February 26 after neighbouring properties experienced unusual power cuts.

Officers from Halifax NPT conducted enquiries before gaining entry into the property.

The derelict building in the heart of Halifax Town Center was formerly used as offices but raised suspicions after several power cuts plague the area.

Once inside the building, police found a sophisticated cannabis farm which spanned 5 storeys.

Speaking after the farm was dismantled and the plants seized, the police said they are looking for the owners of the drugs who will be prosecuted for their crimes.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers from Inner North West NPT executed three Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act warrants on one street in Woodhouse.

“Once entry had been gained, a large-scale cannabis factory was found and three arrests were made at the scene.

“These were for the production of cannabis, abstracting electricity and possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

“Early estimates put the factory’s yearly turnover at approximately £2million.”

Only a fortnight ago, West Yorkshire Police seized more than 600 cannabis plants in a raid at a house in Keighley.

The force discovered a cannabis farm with a street value of £130,000 this morning (April 20) in Highfield, Keighley, consisting of 164 mature plants, and 475 seedlings – 639 plants in total.

The drugs farm was discovered in Granville Street after Northern Powergrid had been sent out to the house to carry out safety work on the electrics.
