WBC And Wilder Under Fire For Death In The Ring Talk

By Gabriel Princewill-

The World Boxing Organisation( WBC) is under fire for failing to discourage American Doentey Wilder from making far reaching comments involving the life of his rival, Dominic Breazeale.

WBC president, Jose Sulemain has been criticised for giving no admonishing words to bad boy Wilder, who has repeatedly  spoken of ”trying to get a body on my record. ”One boxing critic told The Eye Of Media.Com: ”Wlder really shouldn’t be talking like this, but boxers do often give trash talk and sometimes go below the belt. The WBC should at least be intervening and telling him you can’t talk like this.

Former WBC champions, Frank Bruno, and Nigel Benn condemned Wider’s words as a disgrace to boxing. Bruno said: ”This man would do anything to heighten his profile As a former WBC champion, I never went into the ring to kill anyone. It gives boxing a bad name. This is a sport, we are not gladiators. This is not Roman Times we shake hands afterwards and go home to our families.

Wilder has on more than one occasion expressed a desire to kill an opponent in the ring. The chiselled and athletic heavyweight champion has  defended his position on the basis of the inherent brutality of the sport, in which the senseless concussion of an opponent is the ultimate thrill  of die hard fans. .

Wilder, whose mantra has long been ”pain is the name of the game” says he has no plans of retracting his pernicious words as he bids to achieve the 7th defence of his title against 6ft 7 inch Breazeale. Bad blood already runs deep between the pair; the piercing rhetoric uttered by Wilder could spark fireworks with unforeseen consequences for either of the two combatants.

ENORMOUS

The WBC is already under enormous criticism for unjustifiably denying top British contender, Dillian Whyte a shot at their heavyweight champion, Wilder, despite Whyte’s longstanding eligibility  for a title shot, having been positioned at the no 1 contender a long while ago.

A recent call for Whyte to fight Tyson Fury as an eliminator for a title shot  has be shown to be disingenuous, given the gypsy man’s already granted right for a rematch with Wilder  after their thrilling draw in 2018. How high principles rank with the WBC is unclear. Wilder’s principles are clear. He is ready to talk and inflict maximum damage in the ring. He wants his bad intentions and dangerous streak known, but may need some taming.

Wilder is likely expressing his dangerous streak in approaching the fight with the sort of high intensity and ferocity as one going for a killing. He is  trying to convey the fearsome and destructive side of him, but it hasn’t gone well in many quarters. The grudge fight this Saturday is expected to be explosive as Wilder looks for another knockout win, and Breazeale comes out to shock the world and make the American pay for his fierce words  which all of Brezeale’s friends and family would be aware of.
