Vulnerable People Asked To Shield And Not Attend Shops Until March 31

By Tony O’Riley-

The British government has asked 1.7million vulnerable people in England to shield from coronavirus and everyone on the vulnerable list is being urged to stay at home until at least March 31.

A circulated mail to vulnerable people  in the UK urged them to only go out for a medical appointment or exercise, but not to go to shops .

The mail signed by Matt Hancock and Robert Jenrick was detailed in its guidance to Britain’s vulnerable people. It specifies that

Vulnerable people had initially been told to shield until February 21, but the group were told to extend it until March 31.

”We wrote to you last month advising you to shield until March  31 March  2021. We write to you again in mid March until further advice.

While the lockdown has been effective and cases of COVID-19  are falling the levels of infection remain high and the virus continues to pose  a high risk to  to people across the country.

The risk remains high for those considered clinically vulnerable. Therefore the government strongly advices you to follow the shielding measures that were introduced in January to help you  protect yourself.

”You are advised to stay at home as much as possible, although you can  can still go outdoors carefully to exercise or attend health appointments’. You are strictly advised to work from home if you can. If you cannot work from home, then do not attend work”.

Those who do chose to shield will qualify medical and supermarket deliveries through their Local Authority, as well as and statutory sick pay’,’ the email read.

The original shielding list was made up of people with conditions that health experts assumed would put them at risk. However, at the inception of the list, there was no data on which to base it.

Around 2.2 million people are currently on the list in England, many of whom were identified for a single reason, such as specific cancers, people on immunosuppression drugs or those with severe respiratory

Shielders who have had their first dose of vaccine are being told to continue shielding until they have had their second shot and developed immunity Therefore the government from it, which happens after about three weeks after the injection

They include adults with Down’s Syndrome, organ donor recipients and people with severe respiratory conditions.
