A University of Liverpool student accused of murdering a young man by stamping on his head in a street fight has appeared in court this morning, charged with his murder.
Elvis Duruaku, 24 allegedly killed Hassan Haadi, 22, in Everton on the evening of Saturday, March 21 this year. Mr Haadi was found lying unconscious in the road in Shaw Street, at the junction with Langsdale Street, at around 8.30pm. He had bee battered by the sheer might of his assailant and would stand no chance of survival. Merseyside Police said witnesses gave first aid to Mr Haadi, from Everton by an ambulance raced to the scene in a desperate attempt to save him.
He was eventually taken to hospital, where he was treated for a serious head injury. However, he sadly died just over two weeks later, on Sunday, April 5th. Duruaku, from Nottingham, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, April 7 for the brutal murder. He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this morning, via video link from Walton prison, for a short hearing. Duruaku, of Barker Avenue North, Sandiacre sat in the duck holding his head in his hands. He is believed to have also worked part time at Sports Direct and was also a n events promoter.
Judge David Aubrey, QC, remanded Duruaku in custody and said he would next appear at a plea and trial preparation hearing on May 6.
