Uk To Send Long Range Missiles To Ukraine To Support War Against Ukraine

By Ben Kerrigan-

The UK is sending long-range missiles to Ukraine, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has confirmed.

The minister said that Storm Shadows missiles will be provided to Ukraine’s military.

Ukraine has long been calling for such weapons, but the US and other countries have been unwilling to supply them in case strikes inside Russia lead to escalation.

The Uk says the support is to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression, and that the move is a necessary response to Russia’s destabilizing actions in the region. The missiles, known as Brimstone missiles, are capable of destroying tanks and other armored vehicles from a distance of up to 12.5 miles.

However, the decision to send these missiles has not been without controversy. Some have argued that the UK is spending too much money on this war, and that this move could lead to further escalation of violence in the region. Others have criticized the UK for intervening in a conflict that does not directly involve them, and for taking sides in a complex geopolitical situation.

On the one hand, it is important to recognize that the UK has a strategic interest in maintaining stability and security in Europe. The conflict in Ukraine has been ongoing for several years, and has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people. If left unchecked, it could lead to further instability in the region, and even a wider conflict involving other countries.

Moreover, sending weapons to Ukraine could be seen as a way for the UK to show its support for its allies and to demonstrate that it is willing to take a stand against Russian aggression. It could also help to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities and increase the country’s chances of successfully defending itself against Russian-backed separatists.

On the other hand, there are valid concerns about the cost of the UK’s involvement in this conflict. The UK is already facing economic challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and some have argued that this move is a waste of taxpayer money that could be better spent on domestic issues.

Additionally, there is a risk that the UK’s involvement in this conflict could lead to further escalation of violence. Russia has already warned that it will take “adequate measures” in response to the UK’s move, and there is a risk that this could lead to further military action on both sides.

Furthermore, some have argued that the UK’s involvement in this conflict could be seen as taking sides in a complex geopolitical situation. While it is true that Russia’s actions in Ukraine have been destabilizing and have violated international law, it is also true that the conflict in Ukraine has deep historical roots and is a complex issue that cannot be reduced to a simple binary of good versus evil.

The UK’s decision to send long-range missiles to Ukraine is a complex issue that requires careful consideration of the potential risks and benefits. While it is important for the UK to support its allies and maintain stability in Europe, there are valid concerns about the cost of this involvement and the risk of further escalation of violence. Ultimately, the UK will need to carefully consider its actions and work with its allies to find a peaceful resolution to this ongoing conflict.

Storm Shadow is a long-range, air-launched cruise missile developed by British Aerospace and a French company, which carries a 450kg conventional warhead to a range of up to 200 miles (300km).

Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Wallace said: “The donation of these weapons systems gives Ukraine the best chance to defend themselves against Russia’s continued brutality, especially the deliberate targeting of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which is against international law”.
