UK Elections Hung Parliament Is Messy

By Wayne Lee-

The UK elections has ended in a hung parliament , meaning another election may be necessary in the autumn.

Theresa May failed to win the large majority of 326 seats expected for her party to win outright. The result is catastrophic for the Conservative party , who only a few weeks ago were expected to comfortably win these elections.

The prime minister called the snap elections to strengthen her hand in the Brexit negotiations . That decision backfired terribly as several voters elected to put their trust in Jeremy Corbyn. Young people turned out to vote in numbers, many of them voting for Labour.

Corbyn looked upbeat today and called for the prime minister’s s resignation over the results. He argued that her reputation has been damaged and her leadership weakened.

Critics have blamed the campaign strategy of the Conservative party , but the terrorist attacks that occured during her campaign threw the issue of security into the hat of political issues. The blunder of the security services also went against May in addition to other issues already hanging.

Young people deserted May in numbers over University tuition fees, and cuts to funding for schools. Teachers in general were against May, according to a sample survey by the eye media.com

SHOCKED

Theresa May looked shocked and disappointed , as she ponders her immediate future. The Conservatives are in talks with the unheralded DUP party , with whom they are likely to form a majority government. All indications are that May will continue as prime minister , despite the damage to her authority.

When Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson was asked if he would still support May, he said ” early days”, a sign he did not want to commit. Johnson may still have ambitions to be prime minister , considering how he was knifed and betrayed straight after the Brexit referendum. Whether he has enough support from MP’s is another matter , but the chances are that May will continue.

FURIOUS

Some Conservative Mp’ s are furious with May’ s decision to call this election when she already had a mandate. There is also a strong possibility that this bad result could make the prime minister vulnerable to rebellion in her party.
