Theresa Mays Foolish advice To Call Elections

By James Simons-

Theresa May was badly advised to hold another election so soon after she became prime minister. In 2016 after David Cameron stepped down.

May’ s expectations for a comfortable win was evidently mistaken, and shows a musjudgement of the government. The risk was foolish and unnecessary , a confirmation of the government’s misconception of the feeling of disillusionment among many members of the public.

Foolish not to be aware of the disgruntlement of members of the NHS, teachers and students in most public priamary and secondary schools . Foolish not to be aware that a large number of University students , former University students, and thousands of parents of these students were crossed with the Conservative party.

Their guage of the public mood was terribly poor. Reference has been made to a bad compaign ,by this cannot account for the Conservative flop at the polls. Enough resentment against the Conservative party was already reaching fever point in many circles. If Theresa May’ s advisers couldn’t see that calling an election was a dangerous move filled with strategic errors, they probably need to be changed.

MISGUIDED

The prime minister should have continued with the tough negotiations of Brexit ahead of her. The need for a so-called public vote to strengthen her hands was heavily misguided. Theresa May’ s advisers should have been aware of the potential unpredictability of elections

. The U.S election shock last year should have served as a warning sign to May and her advisers. Perhaps the allegation by U.S intelligent officials that Russian cyber attacks influenced the U.S elections , made Conservatives disregard that .

DIMINISHED

It is important not to forget that Theresa May did win this elections. Her diminished image is because she failed to win it resoundingly with a majority. She is still a leader of a party with the largest seats, but her support , figure and authority is greatly diminished.

A damaged reputation is not beyond repair but that will always depend on what different approach is taken to change or positively influenced a damaged reputation.

May is scheduled to go to Buckingham Palace at 12.30 to seek her permission to continue as.lrome.minister , and to outline her plans to work with the DUP on a case basis. Strong concerns have been expressed about a prime minister approaching tough Brexit negotiations with a damaged reputation.

Conservatives already have built a relationship with the DUP for about two years, so it will be interesting to see how they work together. Rocky says and weeks may lie ahead for Theresa May, and much will depend on what cards they play form his point on.
