THE UGLY TRAIL OF CHERYL ‘S TWO DIVORCES

BY LUCY CAULKETT

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will be keeping her marriage surname of Fernandez-Versini, despite her divorce with John Bernard.

The singer was initially known as Cheryl Tweedy from birth, then became Cheryl Cole after her first marriage, before changing it to Fernandez-Versini after she married the French entrepreneur in a unity that was in hindsight doomed to failure. Business papers indicate she will continue to operate under her latest surname, highlighting a contradiction in her decision to file for her second divorce.

Cheryl will be uncomfortable to keep changing her surnames as this will make her look unstable in the business world. No wonder she plans to keep her husbands surname even they get divorced. The contradiction she has to contend with is the fact that it is strange to divorce a man and then keep his surname. When a woman marries a man and adopts his surname, this is representative of the union of love that binds them together. There is no no logic in keeping a surname if divorce is on the cards. This is why there is something disturbing about the woman who once married a footballer, divorced him, then married an entrepreneur and is in the process of divorcing him too.

It will be strange walking around with the surname of someone you have divorced, and even more uncomfortable to any man who subsequetnly contemplates pursuing a romance with beautiful Cheryl. They will have to wonder if she will divorce her at the slightest sign of difficult times and therefore keep marriage off the cards unless they want their surname glued to a woman of their past.

One can only wonder how she would react if he insisted that she did not use his surname once she leaves him. The x factor judge is likeable in many ways, but the folly of her life choices is leaving an undesirably ugly trail behind her.
