U.S Senator Corker And President Trump In Public Feud Over North Korea Crisis

By Lucy Caulkett-

The feud between U.S Tennessee Senator , Bob Corker , and the U.S president , Donald Trump has reached fever pitch over North Korea. Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, took a swipe at the president as the feud between them escalated.

Corker has expressed strong concerns that President Trump has stood in the way of allowing the U.S Secretary of State, Rex Tellison, to do his job efficiently. Corker both stresses and alleges that the President’s cynical tweeting is obstructing the diplomatic efforts of Tellison in working successfully with China to ease the potentially calamitous outcome arising from the unending political friction between America and North Korea.

Trump once tweeted that Tellisin was wasting his time in trying to dissuade the North Korean President from pursuing his nuclear weapons agenda, but Corker believes President Trump is negatively undermining the efforts of his Secretary of State. Corker told reporters: China’s role is seen as critical in efforts to bring the North to the table as it is the regime’s only major ally.
Mr Corker said: ”I want to support these efforts that are underway.
“The President undermines our secretary of state, raises tensions in the area by virtue of the tweets that he sends out.”
“I would just like for him to leave it to the professionals for a while and see if we can do something that’s constructive for our country, the region, and the world.”

COMBAT

The Senator accused Trump of taking America on a path to combat, hinting at the prospect of a war resulting from the ongoing heightened political tensions that has created the immensely rehearsed drills at the Korean Peninsula. Senator Corker was talking about the tweets of the president labeling the efforts of the U.S Secretary of State ‘’a waste of time’’ in trying to negotiate with North Korea over their nuclear and ballistic missile programmes
“Really, when you look at the fact that we’ve got this issue in North Korea and the President continues to kneecap his diplomatic representative, the secretary of state, and really move him away from successful diplomatic negotiations with China, which is key to this, you’re taking us on a path to combat,” Corker said. Trump was expressing his convictions that the U.S Secretary was wasting his time, but Corker believes the President should have soberly left his Secretary to attempt his own diplomatic tactics without obstruction.

Corker has accused Mr Trump of being “utterly untruthful”, adding that he debased the US and weakened its global standing. Mr Trump fired back on Twitter, calling the top Senator a “lightweight” who “couldn’t get re-elected”.
“He is purposely breaking down relationships we have around the world that had been useful to our nation. “I think the debasement of our nation is what he’ll be remembered most for,” he told CNN. The public spat between President Trump and his senator presents a disturbing picture of an administration in discord during a period of political crisis when unity and intelligent strategy is needed. The demand for some urgent compromise has never been needed in a time of crisis like this.
