Tyson Fury Says He Doesn’t Want Immediate Wilder Rematch

By Tim Parsons-

Tyson Fury may be plotting to fight Anthony Joshua, after stating he does not want an immediate rematch with Deontey Wilder. Fury told BT sport that he  wants a warm up home coming fight in Manchester before he faces Deontey Wilder in a rematch.

The unbeaten former world heavyweight champion told BT he wants an interim home coming  fight.  Some insiders think Fury may be planning on fighting and beating Anthony Joshua before meeting Wilder in a rematch before fighting American Wilder. It may also be an indirect way of opening up the door for a Joshua v Wilder fight on April 13, this year. This will give Fury the choice of fighting Wilder in a rematch, if the American beats Joshua. Tyson Fury is also prepared to face Joshua if the Londoner beats Wilder.

The unorthodox 6ft 9 inch gypsy has expressed his high confidence that he will beat Anthony Joshua if ever they meet in the ring. He performance against Deontey Wilder has convinced many boxing fans that Fury may be able to beat Joshua , who many fans consider to be too robotic for the agile Fury. The flip side of the coin is that Fury may secretly  want to avoid the risk of fighting Wilder in the hope Joshua beats him. In reality, most boxing fans don’t believe Tyson Fury is scared of either Joshua or Wilder.

Anthony Joshua’s team have been calling for Joshua to meet Wilder after four months of negotiations for a mega $50m fight in 20187 fell through. Fury told BT Sport:

“Whether it happens or not it’s down to them. If they want the fight, they want it; if they don’t, no problem to me.

Champion:d to redeem themselves, not me. I’ve done everything I should have done, I don’t need to redeem myself or a second chance at glory.

“Hopefully I get a fight with Deontay Wilder in America or England; I’m not bothered where it is,” he told BT Sport.

“If it’s in Australia or Antarctica it wouldn’t be a problem to me; wherever the fight is, we’ll go. “I’m the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, I don’t need an alphabet title. Wilder’s WBC belt cannot eb considered an alphabet title, it is a real one, and Fury knows it. His suggestion that Wilder’s tile is an alphabet one may question the honesty of the reason he wants an interim fight before fighting Wilder. Fury’s manager, Frank Warren has been trying to negotiate a fight with the American’s team before Fury expressed his preference in having a warm up fight first.

“Hopefully there are plenty of exciting nights left in me, I’m still young at 30. I just hope everyone does the right thing and fights each other because if they don’t it’s pretty pointless being involved in the heavyweight division.

“Why don’t we just retire if we’re going to fight nobodies?”

If Fury carries out his plans, it will leave Wilder risking not getting the immediate opportunity to convince the public he is definitely the best in the division. Wilder can still prove his point by first beating the winner of Tyson Fury And Anthony Joshua in April, later this year. Anything is possible right now in heavyweight boxing, it is unclear the direction things will take.
