Two men have been arrested after nine people were stabbed and are being treated for life threatening injuries on a train near Cambridge in Eastern England on Saturday. Cambridgeshire constabulary said armed forces were called to the scene at Huntingdon station at 7.39pm on Saturday. ”Armed forces attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon where two men were arrested, the police said. A large scale response has been deployed to the incident.
Witnesses said people wounded by the attack where seen sprinting through the train away from somebody from a knife. The perpetrator who was seen standing on the platform with a large blade was incapacitated with a taser and then restrained. Between six to eight people were said by witnesses to have been wounded in the horror attack.
The attack happened on the 6.25pm train service from Doncaster to London Kings Cross shortly after the train left Peterborough station. In a statement on X, the prime minister said: ”the appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with those affected and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police”.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was deeply saddened to hear of the stabbings, adding: I urge people to avoid comment and speculation at this early stage”.
Passengers have been urged to avoid travelling as a result of the incident, and no motive for the atatck has been established as of yet.
