A trainee family solicitor has been jailed for five months after sending unwanted explicit messages and an unsolicited image of himself to a woman he had represented in court. Mohammed Ahmed, 28, was working as a trainee family solicitor when he represented the woman during legal proceedings, according to West Midlands Police. After the case,
Ahmed added the woman on social media, later claiming that he had done so accidentally.He subsequently sent her a series of explicit messages and an explicit image of himself. Police described the incident as “cyberflashing”, in which an unsolicited sexual image is sent to another person electronically.

The woman reported Ahmed to West Midlands Police, prompting an investigation by officers from the force’s Public Protection Unit. Ahmed was later charged with sending an unsolicited explicit image with the intention of causing alarm, distress or humiliation.
He admitted the offence at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 21 August and was sentenced to five months in prison. He was also placed on the sexual offender register for five years.Police Staff Investigator Katie Evers, of West Midlands Police’s Public Protection Unit, said Ahmed had abused the position of trust placed in him through his professional role.
“Ahmed abused his position of trust and sent explicit messages and an image to someone he was supposed to be helping,” Evers said. She praised the woman for reporting what had happened, saying: “The woman in this case did exactly the right thing and came forward and reported his crimes.”

Eivers also thanked the woman for her bravery in coming forward and reporting the incident.The case highlights the serious consequences that can follow when someone in a position of professional trust uses access to or contact with a client for inappropriate personal or sexual communication. Ahmed’s imprisonment and registration as a sex offender underline the seriousness with which the offence was treated by the court.
