Son Of Woman Stabbed To Death By Her Abusive Ex Husband Says Police Did Nothing

By Charlotte Webster-

The son of a woman brutally stabbed to death by her abusive ex-husband has accused police of “doing nothing” to help in the years leading up to her death.

Mum-of-two Yasmin Chkaifi (pictured)was stabbed multiple times in the street in Maida Vale, west London, on Monday morning. The knifeman – 41-year-old Leon McCaskre – was then run over and killed, with a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder.

Yasmin’s family members have since claimed that Mccaskie abused the 43-year-old mother-of-two during their two-year marriage.

Yasmin Chkaifi, 43, was found dead on Chippenham Road, Maida Vale, just after 09:00 GMT on Monday, along with 41-year-old Leon McCaskre, who also died.

Chkaifi, nicknamed Yaz, who had two sons aged 16 and 18, was described by one neighbour as “really kind person” and another as a “very beautiful lady”. One neighbour said Chkaifi and McCaskre were estranged lovers, and the pair shared a second-floor flat in which they could hear McCaskre hitting Chkaifi.

One of her sons has said that his mum, a mature student of Moroccan descent, secured a restraining order against her ex-husband and installed a panic alarm in her flat because she was so frightened.

According to Mail Online , the son, who insisted on anonymity, accused Scotland Yard of “doing nothing” to help his mum, despite repeated warnings about Mccaskie.

“It was a very abusive relationship which got worse after the divorce. My mother was continually being harassed and intimidated by this man. He made her life hell,” the son said,

He added: “I was always in touch with the police but they did nothing to help here. There was even a panic alarm installed in our flat – that’s how scared she was of this man. He was a monster.”

In response to the allegations, the Met Police said: “A Stalking Prevention Order has been obtained against the deceased man, as a matter of course there will be a review by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards NPTD further.”

Yasmin’s family told the Mirror they want “justice” for the 43-year-old’s death.

They claim McCaskre was well known to police, describing him as an “abusive monster”.

They added that the man allegedly responsible for his death has their thanks and say he shouldn’t be sent to prison.

Wafah’s brother told The Mirror: “How many more women’s lives have to be taken away. Another slips through the net.
“I am going to see my nieces and nephews later. They are 16 and 18. She was such a laid back person. She was so cool.”

Her aunt Haida said: “She was beautiful good hearted, she and had a heart of gold.

“She never hated anyone and had friends from many cultures. She was in her final year studying but I don’t know what she studied, and worked.

“She has two sons who are 16 and 18.”
McCaskre was reportedly seen stabbing the mum with a large knife as horrified witnesses tried to stop him before he was run over.

A man suspected of driving the vehicle that ran down and killed him as he knifed Yasmin, was later arrested by police, a witness said.

A neighbour who saw the woman being attacked said he was left with blood on his hands as he tried to help save Yasmin’s life.

Raad Jiyad who lives nearby said McCaskre had a big knife and was standing over Yasmin, who was screaming in pain.

Tributes have been laid around a tree at the scene today, with several mourners in floods of tears, while police are carrying out a full investigation.
The latest revelations about the restraining order against McCaskre come as Yasmin’s neighbours have claimed that she was repeatedly beaten up by her “controlling” ex-boyfriend.

A neighbour said that when the pair lived together, he could often be heard beating her up and shouting at her.

Talking to The Guardian , the neighbour said: “He used to beat her up when he was here.

“These flats were only built about 12 years ago, so they are very well insulated and soundproofed.

“But I would hear clumps and thumps and hear her screaming and him shouting.

“I would knock on the door, and there wouldn’t be an answer, but then it would stop because he knew someone had heard.

“It was at all times of the day and night.”
