Shining Star Amanda Gorman To Perform At Super Bowl

By Dominic Taylor-

Amanda Gorman is to become the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl when she recites an original poem honouring three honorary captains who have given back to their communities during the pandemic.

The 22-year-old was signed to IMG model agency, after showcasing her impressive talent through her genius poetic performance with her ”The Hill We Climb lyrics at Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20 before a global audience.

Her masterful eloquence and brilliance was motivational to millions of young people and older adults across the world. Michelle Obama said Gorman’s words remind “us of the power we each hold in upholding our democracy”.

The poet will celebrate the work of Los Angeles teacher Trimaine Davis, Tampa nurse manager Suzie Dorner and Pittsburgh Marine veteran James Martin, who were chosen for the coin toss because they embody the NFL’s message of It Takes All of Us this season. Gorman will recite her poem before the game starts on 7 February.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, “During this incredibly challenging time in our lives, Trimaine, Suzie, and James have exemplified the essence of leadership, each in their own way. We are grateful for their commitment and proud to share their stories and recognise them during this special moment on Super Bowl Sunday.”

Following the inauguration ceremony, three forthcoming books by Gorman — The Hill We Climb: Poems and Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem, both scheduled for September, and a special hardcover version of The Hill We Climb slated for April — have all become Amazon best-sellers.

The red satin Prada headband she wore during the inauguration ceremony led to the item selling out, while her yellow coat (also Prada) caused searches for “yellow coats” to increase 1,328% (according to fashion search engine Lyst) in the wake of her appearance.

Ms Gorman told the magazine: “I’m a black woman with a powerful pen and a big heart, and I like my look to reflect that pride,” Gorman told Harper’s Bazaar, speaking about her love of style. She told the magazine she loves “loud, regal-looking dresses embroidered with flowers – a nod, I think, to my Afro-flower-child upbringing in Los Angeles. I’m also a fan of Victor Glemaud’s super stylish and comfy knitwear.”

Gorman founded the charity One Pen, One Page, which supports underprivileged young people through writing, was raised by her mother who is an English teacher. She has two siblings, one of whom is a twin sister, Gabrielle- an activist and film maker. She has an auditory processing disorder and is hypersensitive to sound.

The Los Angelis born star, attended New Roads, a private school in Santa Monica,  and as a senior received a Milken Family Foundation college scholarship. She studied sociology at Harvard College,[16] graduating cum laude in 2020
