United States District Judge Arun Subramanian handed down a 50-month sentence to Sean “Diddy” Combs on Friday in a federal courtroom in New York City.
The hip-hop mogul received the sentence after being convicted in July on two counts of transporting people across state lines for the purpose of prostitution, a violation of the federal Mann Act.
Ultimately, the jury acquitted the 55-year-old on the most severe charges he faced, which included sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
Prosecutors initially sought a much longer term of eleven years and three months in prison, while the defense pushed for a sentence of no more than fourteen months, citing the thirteen months Combs had already spent behind bars since his arrest in September 2024.
The court also ordered Combs to pay a substantial $500,000 fine. Therefore, the judge’s decision falls between the strong recommendations of both the prosecution and the defense in this widely publicized case.
The sentence reflects the severe nature of the offenses committed by Sean Diddy Combs sentenced for his actions. The lengthy and emotional hearing marked a forceful reckoning for a dominant force in the music industry.
The final sentence for Sean Diddy Combs sentenced on these charges concluded a pivotal moment in the legal proceedings.
During the proceedings, Judge Subramanian spoke directly about the significant power imbalance and abuse, addressing the convicted man before delivering the final sentence.
“You abused them, physically, emotionally and psychologically,” the judge stated to Combs, condemning his long-running pattern of exploiting vulnerable individuals.
Furthermore, the judge questioned why the crimes continued for such an extended period, answering his own query by noting that Combs possessed the resources and power to keep his actions hidden.
Justice Subramanian asserted that a “meaningful sentence is needed to protect the public for further crimes,” specifically rejecting the defense’s attempt to characterize the coerced sexual encounters, known as “freak-offs,” as consensual. Indeed, a considerable amount of evidence was presented, leaving the judge unconvinced that the crimes would not be repeated if Combs were released immediately.

The judge’s most poignant remarks were reserved for the brave women who courageously came forward to testify against the powerful music executive.
Judge Subramanian publicly acknowledged the harrowing testimony of Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and the woman identified only by the pseudonym “Jane.” “We heard you,” the judge told them and other victims, offering powerful validation for the trauma and abuse they endured.
The judge praised the accusers for having the strength to stand up to a figure of great influence. Ventura, Combs’ former girlfriend, offered compelling testimony during the trial, detailing years of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, and jurors were shown surveillance video of Combs assaulting her in a hotel hallway.

Facing the court before the sentence was finalized, Combs offered an apology to the victims, his family, and all survivors of domestic violence.
Breaking down in tears, he told the court, “My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will forever have to carry.” The entrepreneur claimed his actions were “disgusting, shameful and sick,” blaming them on being “sick from the drugs” and “out of control.”

He stated he had been “humbled and broken to my core,” begging the judge for a chance to be a better father and community leader. However, the prosecution countered that Combs showed a lack of genuine remorse, noting evidence that he was already planning speaking engagements after a potential release.

Before he delivered his own address, the court listened to powerful statements from six of his seven children. The testimonies deeply moved the rapper, who visibly broke down in tears as each child passionately expressed their love for him. They spoke movingly about his personal growth and transformation, emphasizing how critically they, along with their younger two-year-old sister, depend on his presence in their lives.
