Priti Patel Should Be Forgiven And Allowed To Celebrate If England Win Tonight

By Sammie Jones-

Priti Patel should be forgiven allowed to openly celebrate an England victory against Denmark tonight if she can take steps to show her support for the fight against racism in football, especially the Uk as a whole.

Priti Patel must have been blinded by those interviewing her or someone she didn’t want to upset, so should be forgiven and allowed to celebrate if England win tonight against Ukraine. She is British born and intelligent, but may have had a glass of wine with someone who doesn’t agree with taking the knee .

After one of my colleagues, creatively wondered whether Patel should be advised through an article not to comment o social media to avoid a potentially racist backclash, I thought it may be a better idea to actually suggest she, like all proud Brits, be allowed to celebrate an England win on social media, though it may not be the best idea.

Patel was attacked by Gary Neville after she tweeted a celebratory message following England’s battering of Ukraine on Sunday, only to be told off by Sky Commentator, Gary Neville.

Neville blasted Patel after she posted a tweet celebrating England’s triumph over Ukraine which said: “What a performance. What a team. #ItsComingHome.”

The former Three Lions right-back responded: “The cheek of you!” in a tweet which was liked over 44,000 times.

The Three Lions advanced to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 with a five-star performance at Stadio Olimpico, with Harry Kane scoring in both halves and Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson nodding in from corners.

Gareth Southgate’s squad looked awesome in their performance, doing the nation proud as a result.

Before each of England’s group and last-16 matches, a minority of the Wembley crowd have  booed as players kneeled, although cheers and applause are generally dominant.

However, Patel’s  criticism of the knee taking the knee, labelling it an act of “gesture politics” last month has aroused much condemnation in football circles, and among logical critics.

“It’s all well to support a cause and make your voices heard,” she told GB News . “But actually, quite frankly, and we saw last year in particular with some of the protests that took place, I speak now very much from what I saw in the impact on policing, it was devastating.

“Not only that, I just don’t subscribe to this view that we should be rewriting our history, pulling down statues, the famous [Edward] Colston statue, and what’s happened there [in Bristol].

“Toppling statues is not the answer; It’s about learning from our past, learning from our history and actually working together to drive the right outcomes.”

Asked if fans were within their rights to boo players taking the knee, Patel responded: “That’s a choice for them, quite frankly.”

Her response was poor coming from a Home Secretary from an ethnic minority background. She appeared to be stating that it was  a choice for  fans if they wanted  to boo players while taking the knee. She should be forgiven and allowed to celebrate, though it may be wise for her to avoid saying anything on social media.
