Nottingham University Students Complain After Cops Disperse Party

By Gavin Mackintosh

Nottingham University students are complaining after Police shut down marquees set up at the University of Nottingham following reports from members of the public about parties, and noise complaints on campus during the lockdown.

University students had been secretly gathering to party  at the marquee despite lockdown rules in place, but  thought were doing it discretely.

Disappointed passers by alerted cops conducting regular patrols at the University to the gathering of a group of students in excess of the limited number of six stipulated as part of coronavirus rules.

Universities in the UK are not formally open yet due to ongoing restrictions, but students residing on campus have already begun having their fun

One student anonymously told The Eye Of Media.Com: ” I think the government think we university students are stupid and can’t think for ourselves. Many f us do take precautions, but it want to tell university students to have no fun at all, not listen to music in groups of under 6 unless they are from your household, well not everyone wants to hear that.

Last year was already ruined by the pandemic, I don’t think many university students are going to allow the government ruin this year too” .

The marquees on the University Park campus were set up for students’ use in between teaching sessions and in their spare time.

They provide students with warm and dry space if they cannot be accommodated indoors.

Marquees near halls of residence were equipped with Bluetooth speakers, curtains and are also heated.

These are located near Cripps Hall, Rutland Hall, Derby Hall, and Ancaster Hall.

A University of Nottingham spokesperson said : “The marquees attached to our halls have been provided to account for space lost due to social distancing regulations and offer students an alternative to their rooms as a space to study or relax.

“Following complaints of noise on campus over the weekend, we have taken the decision to temporarily close the marquees at our halls of residence while we review our noise management procedures.”
