North Kensington Fire Death Toll Could Go Into HundredsBy Sammie Jones

The North Kensington fire death toll could go into the hundreds after police officers confirmed that 12 dead bodies have been counted, with many more fatalities expected.

An officer at the scene of the fire told the eye of media.com that the number of the dead could easily go into hundreds, but refused to go on record with that estimation, saying ‘’one can only hope, I don’t think there is much chance of many survivors”. It is a deeply distressing tale of evil or carelessness, possibly a mixture of both. How this could happen West London, kids will never understand.

Considering that the Grenfell Tower underwent a two-year £10m refurbishment as part of a wider transformation, it is embarrassing and disgraceful that something like this could happen.

The 24-storey tower containing about 120 flats, managed by the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation was the home of the residents who lived there and paid their rent or Mortgages. They were charged bills like every one of us, but when they complained bitterly and continuously about state of the building, they were ignored and treated like people who don’t matter.

RISK

The local Grenfell Action Group chad nagged again and again about the high risk of fire to the building, and that access to the site for emergency vehicles was “severely restricted”.

They nagging were wickedly and arrogantly ignored by the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation(KCTMO), who were too busy to address any complaints. Today, the KCTMO said it was too early to speculate on what caused the fire and contributed to its spread.

It added: “We are aware that concerns have been raised historically by residents.
“We always take all concerns seriously and these will form part of our forthcoming investigations.
“While these investigations continue with our co-operation, our core priority at the moment is our residents.”

That’s what they would say, there is nothing else they can say to admit fault in this disaster. There can be no escape for the Management organisation without evidencing some other cause for the fire.

Their construction firm that undertook the refurbishment, Rydon, said it was “shocked to hear of the devastating fire” and added that the work “met all required building control, fire regulation and health and safety standards”. Nobody expects them to admit any fault, but the investigation will nail the cause of this disaster that has snuffed human beings away for no reason.

There are 120 flats in the tower block, accommodating at least 200 people. 74 are currently in hospital, with over 20 in critical condition. If the death toll indeed goes into the hundreds, it will be a major disaster that will have serious consequences.

A promised review on all other tower blocks is welcome since a repeat of this large scale failing must never occur. There are still many people missing , and the request for all survivors to tick themselves off the missing list may not be met with everybody on time.

Knowing that up to a dozen people have been confirmed dead is bad enough, without the extra awareness that the figure may quite easily be multiplied several times over, potentially because of ignored complaints. Already, this stands as a disaster to hit residential Londoners who have as much right to life as the evil and arrogant buffons who have caused these horrifying deaths.

The whole thing is worsened by the fact that kids are among the dead, and they would have experienced a terrifying fear that they should have been saved from by mature and professional adults from the very start.
