A new app has today been launched to re-image Maths learning amongst school pupils through play.

Dr Olugbodi, (pictured) is the impressive creator of the Race To Infinity maths game , and Founder of BeGenio, says the app increases attainment levels in the subject, and eliminates mathematical anxiety for children who would otherwise struggle in the subject.

The outstanding innovator- also a mentor and researcher-  believes she has found the way to enthuse all willing individuals, including those who normally struggle with maths.

Mathematics is an important subject, and has historically been a compulsory one to pass at the end of the schooling year for secondary school children in most countries today.

BeGenio- an award winning company, has been praised for its focus on reducing anxiety, improving confidence, and helping children develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills – the three aims of the National Curriculum.

Maths anxiety and low confidence continue to be widespread challenges for pupils across the UK, particularly in communities where many children face additional barriers to learning. The London-based EdTech founder has been working to change this through an innovative blend of AI technology, game-based learning, Augmented Reality and proven community impact.

BeGenio’s work has already made a significant impact across London. With funding and support from organisations like Innovate UK, Sony, Digital Catapult, Royal Borough of Greenwich, Canterbury Christ Church University, Hi3 Network, Peabody and Berkeley Homes. BeGenio has worked across schools helping children strengthen core maths skills through structured play.

The initiative has seen strong engagement from pupils and positive feedback from teachers, many of whom reported improvements in confidence, attainment levels, enjoyment and willingness to attempt challenging tasks.

The success of this work contributed to the decision to digitise the original Race To Infinity board game and extend its benefits even further.

The original Race To Infinity board game, now used in over 3,000 schools, has been featured on BBC NEWS and BBC World, and been backed by Academic Research led by the University of Greenwich, which highlighted its link to the National Curriculum, and its ability to help children develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills – the 3 aims of the National Curriculum.

The game helps students reduce maths anxiety, improve cognitive skills, and encourage positive learning behaviours.

The game also has 1,000+ verified positive testimonials across Amazon in multiple countries, as well as from educators, parents and education specialists. Dr Ologbodi, also a researcher in education, and member of The Eye Of Media’s thinktank, told this publication:

” I am very proud to  have founded a game with groundbreaking effects on childen’s learning. BeGenio’s methodology emphasises: enjoyment and play increase in confidence learning without realising, cognitive skill development

‘The combination of inclusive approaches for Special Education Needs and anxious learners has proven particularly effective for children who struggle with traditional approaches.

‘Building on years of impact work in schools, BeGenio has now developed a digital, AI-powered version of Race To Infinity.

‘The app is designed to make maths fun, build confidence and foster accessibility and inclusion, while providing teachers with meaningful insights into each pupil’s progress.

”It tracks learning behaviour and progress, identifies strengths and weaknesses, and supports fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving. It also reduces anxiety through game-based interaction, and provides performance data to teachers. Finally, it helps inform formative assessment.

The AI system adapts to each child, offering differentiated support that feels like play, rather than pressure, thereby removing the anxiety.

BeGenio is now inviting a select group of schools to join a free, fully supported pilot of the Race To Infinity Maths Game App. The pilot will give schools:

This approach aligns with Department for Education’s wider mission to support educational improvement across communities, and work to ensure opportunity is equal for all, no matter what their background and circumstances are.

Schools may choose to use the app once or twice a week during class, or as a starter to Maths Lessons or during PSHE classes. They may also use it as part of interventions, or for booster groups

The aim is not to replace teaching but to complement, strengthen and deepen it, especially for children whose confidence have been shaken or who need alternative pathways into learning.

Dr Grace Olugbodi, who in 2019 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of helping children fall in love with Maths, by London Metropolitan University, said her work has long centred on the belief that maths confidence transforms a child’s overall sense of ability.

The founder says when she was 10 years old, her Dad made maths fun and creative for her. That changed the trajectory of her life. Her vision is to create tools that empower children who often feel left behind, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds, those with Special Education Needs, care-experienced backgrounds and those experiencing anxiety, low motivation or low confidence.

“When children enjoy maths, everything changes,” Dr Olugbodi explains.
“Their behaviour improves, their confidence rises, and they begin to feel capable and actually believe they can do maths. This confidence is not just in maths, but spreads out to other parts of life. Our goal is to give every child access to that feeling.”
