The Murder Of Ziggy Owusu Tells Us Why Breaking Fights Is Dangerous

By Eric King-

The death of Ziggy Owusu from Jack Denning Estate in Hackney is a reminder of how dangerous breaking fights is.

19 year old Ziggy Owusu,  was stabbed in a basement shisha lounge bar. He was carried out by paramedics after bring stabbed on Saturday night.

By all accounts, he was trying to break up a fight between a group of boys, but what was the fight about? The precise cause of the fight will tell us what sort of emotions were running through the veins of the dangerous youths. Breaking up a fight where emotions are running high is evidently very dangerous.  It is not the first time, neither will it be the last time someone will be killed breaking a fight.

Peacemaker Ziggy Owusu

The angry individual might perceive the ‘peacemaker’ to be biased against him and lash out in anger. He may also privately begrudge the peacemaker for any reason. It is often safer to call the police than to try to break a fight, unless you are very prepared to defend yourself against all eventuality. This may sometimes mean striking a pre-emptive blow. A pre-emptive blow may provide a potential victim with his or her best chance of survival when breaking up a fight.
People must always be aware of the possibility of being stabbed when breaking up a fight, and either be certain they can definitely break it up successfully, or not gamble on it. This is more important when the peacemaker does not even know what the fight is all about. At the moment, we don’t know whether Ziggy Owusu knew what the fight  was about, or whether indeed he was acquainted with anybody who was involved in the fight.  What we know is that he died over a fight that was not about him, and did not involve him.
Most people who knew him have had only kind words to say about him, which raises the question and wonder as to how he could lose his life in such a brutal fashion like this. Lessons must be learn’t from this tragic event, and hopefully, those who run the shisha restaurant not know they should step up their security measures, and conduct more thorough searches of people who come in their premises in future.
