Metropolitan Police Officer Convicted Of Child Abuse Video Charged With Further Breaches Under Sexual Offences Act

A Metropolitan Police officer convicted of possessing a child abuse video after her sister sent it to her phone has been charged with five further offences.

Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised charges against Superintendent Novlett Robyn Williams(pictured) for breaches of notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 16.

The CPS said Supt Williams, 58, has been charged with five offences under the Sexual Offences Act 2022, including failing to notify the MPS of required details of overseas travel and bank and credit card account details, between November 2019 and December 2021.

The requirements were imposed following her conviction for possessing an indecent image of a child.

The highly decorated officer, who was commended for her work after the Grenfell Tower disaster, was dismissed from the MPS but later reinstated after a Police Appeals Tribunal overturned the decision, ruling she that she should not have been sacked, and instead should have received a final written warning.

Williams was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years as part of her sentencing.

Now she has been charged with failing to notify police of information required five times between November 22, 2019 and December 11, 2021.

Nick Price, head of the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division at the CPS, said: “We have authorised charges against Superintendent Novlett Robyn Williams for five offences relating to breaches of notification requirements.

“The charges follow an investigation by officers at the MPS’s Central West Command Unit that began in 2022.

“The CPS reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Supt Williams are active and that she has the right to a fair trial.”

During her trial at the Old Bailey, jurors heard that she received an explicit child abuse video sent on WhatsApp from her older sister, Jennifer Hodge, who lives in Dollis Hill, Brent, so the officer could investigate the footage.

Her sister had originally been sent the clip by her boyfriend, 63-year-old Dido Massivi.

Now she has been charged with failing to notify police of information required five times between November 22, 2019 and December 11, 2021.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said she failed to notify police of: details of a credit card account; the credit card number, validation date and expiry date of a credit card held; details of the bank account opened on March 6, 2020; details of the debit card issued on June 22, 2021; and details of her travel outside the UK between December 11 and 19, 2021.

Williams will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 16.

Nick Price, head of the special crime and counter-terrorism division at the CPS, said: “We have authorised charges against Superintendent Novlett Robyn Williams, 58, for five offences relating to breaches of notification requirements.

“The charges follow an investigation by officers at the Metropolitan Police’s Central West Command Unit that began in 2022.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Supt Williams are active and that she has the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
