Met Police Execute Domestic Violence Arrests In Three London Boroughs

By Lucy Caulkett-

Police officers have carried out over 14 arrests at Islington, Newham, and Hackney, in connection with violent threatening behaviour. The men in their 20’s and 30’s were arrested in connection with causing grievous bodily harm, harassment, coercion and controlling behaviour, and common assault.

Domestic violence is a common problem in the Uk and many parts of the world, with many of its victims suffering in silence and fear, without anywhere to turn. Coercive behaviour includes men controlling their partner’s use of social media, their freedom to dress as they please and interact with others freely, subjecting them to sustained verbal and abusive behaviour and other mechanisms of control. Many include violent attacks that cause serious injury to their victims.

Det Insp Sean Lyons, said:

”Yesterday’s operation was very successful with a number of people in custody where they cannot pose a further threat on their victims. I hope it sends out a message that they cannot act with impunity, and we will work to ensure they are held to account in a court of law where appropriate. The operation is part of the Mets ongoing action against domestic abuse.

Chief Supt Sue Williams said: This large scale operation led by front line officers is a fantastic example to domestic violence operation, and of the work we are doing all year round to improve our response to these types of crimes. Domestic abuse is being committed behind closed doors, with victims feeling trapped with nowhere to turn. We dedicate significant resources to tackling this issue, and I hope victims take confidence with operations like this; we can and will act on information, and we have processes in place to protect you from further harm.

Operation Methana is the Mets long term approach to bringing domestic abuser suspects to justice. We will continue to strengthen collaborative work with partner agencies to ensure we identify perpetrators and achieve the best possible outcomes for victims
