Man Arrested Over 3 Arson Attacks In Cambridge

A man has been arrested after a spate of arson attacks evacuated a block of flats in Cambridge last night.
Emergency services rushed to three separate locations in the King’s Hedges ward following  reports of a house, caravan and bin on fire.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue say all three fires were deliberate, and the police have now made an arrest in connection with one of the fires.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue have now confirmed that they were called to three separate locations where all fires were deemed deliberate.

A spokesman said: “On Tuesday  at 11.22pm two crews from Cambridge and one crew from Cottenham were called to a house fire on Gladeside, King’s Hedges Ward.

“Crews arrived to find three separate fires, three front doors on fire. One of the fires spread to a house.

“Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fires and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke in the property.
“All persons were accounted for. One cat was also rescued from the property.
“Crews returned to their stations by 2.10am. The cause of the fire was deliberate.”

Two crews from Cambridge were also called to a caravan fire on Downham’s Lane, King’s Hedges Ward where they found a camper van engulfed in flames. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire before returning to their station an hour later.

Later on that evening at 6.02pm a crew from Cambridge were also called to a bin fire on Robert Jennings Close, King’s Hedges Ward.

The crew arrived to find a bin on fire in a bin store. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire before returning to their station by 7.05pm.

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary revealed an arrest has been made.
She said: “We have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with arson in Gladeside, King’s Hedges.
“He remains in custody at Parkside Police Station.
“Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue service were called at about 11.20pm last night to find three front doors on fire, one of which had spread to a house. They alerted police.”
