Leeds Mourning Death Of Talented Teenage KickBoxer

By Tim Parsons-

Leeds is Mourning the death of a teen kickboxer who fell ill and died after a top national kickboxing match.

14 year old Scott Marsden, known as Scotty, was a well bred kick boxing fighter who was competing for an English title at Leeds Martial Arts college, West Yorkshire, on Saturday. He had already won a gold medal at the 2015 kickboxing championships, and was generally believed to have the tools to mix at that level.

There was only one point separating Marsden and his opponent who were fighting for the top UK spot in kick boxing. Unfortunately for young Marsden , he received a serious injury towards the end of the bout, leading to it being called off so that he could receive medical attention.

Marsden’s All Styles (MAS) Kickboxing club – where he trained- was set up by his father, Simon Marsden in 2009. The club is in shock and sadness. His uncle Darren Marsden, has set up a fundraising page to help raise money for his devastated family.

RETURN

Scott had only just returned to the sport after breaking his tibia and fibia in a fight in late October last year, just two days before he was due to fly to Italy with his teammates for the World Championships. The tragedy is a very sad time for the sport , his family and friends.

The justgiving page set up for Scott read:

“Our lovely Scotty, who suffered an injury on Saturday 11/3/17 whilst doing the thing he loved, Kickboxing, sadly never recovered and took his final bow surrounded by his family and people who love him in the early hours of this morning.

“I’ve had the pleasure of helping Scotty raise money in the past to help send him off to fight overseas in the WKU world open championship, where he won Gold -50kg division, something I was so incredibly proud of him for doing.

“So thought it fitting I do it for him again now, even though it’s breaking my heart.
“Everything Scotty did, he did with passion and a confidence that was a pleasure to behold, he was the most wonderful, talented boy and the loss of him will leave a hole in so many people’s lives.
“Scott was not only a kick boxer though, he is a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin and a friend.
“No amount of money can take away the pain his family are feeling today and always, but no family should ever have to cater for coping with the loss of a 14 year old boy, with his whole life ahead of him.
“Please give what you can to help support his beautiful family.”

UNFORESEEN

The tragedy that occurred was unforeseen, and there was no way it could have been prevented, according to legitimate comments made on the facebook page for Marsden.

The page read: “Unfortunately, Saturday night’s English title fight had to be stopped due to Scotty needing immediate medical attention.

“There was no way to foresee the fight ending in such a way as at no point were either ever in any overwhelming danger from each other:
“Everyone is still in shock as there were simply no signs to suggest the fight needed to be stopped.
“The referee stepped in to protect Scott as soon as he could, which meant Scott did not hit the canvas and was laid down and straight into recovery position.
“Scott was then taken to hospital.”
