Historian Robert Lacy says Prince William was right to urge his brother to slow down his relationship with Meghan Markle.
The historian for Netflix’s discusses what happened behind the scenes to the brothers has commented on the role Princess Diana would have played in attempting to settle their alleged feud had she been alive.
Lacy credits Prince William for fulfilling his sense of duty in every respect, particularly requesting Kate Middleton, the woman he loved, to wait nine years before she marries him, responsibly learning from the failed relationship between his father Prince Charles, and the late Princess Diana.
Prince Harry, according to the historian, would also learn from that historic lesson, unapologetically going for the woman he loved in Meghan Markle.
Making reference to the historical split between Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, she describes both Prince Harry and Princess William as emerging out of an ”emotional chaos”.
Justice
In an interview with Elle.com , Mr Lacey says Prince William had a lot of justice on his side, by advising his brother to slow down in his relationship with Meghan, stating that Meghan’s overall make up and aspirations were not compatible with the royal family. Mr Lacey concludes history has proved Prince William right.
”We do not know the details of what he said to Harry, but if he pointed out that this woman that he [Harry] loved was a self-made Hollywood celebrity and a self-made millionairess who created her own celebrity, a self-sufficient woman like this who was ambitious and campaigning her belief in women’s rights and her wish to promote social change.
These are radical initiatives, radical impulses; do they fit inside the rather safe and conservative British Royal Family? If those are the sort of objections and queries that William raised, well, events have proved them right, didn’t they? This was a woman who couldn’t fit inside the Royal Family so, as a result, she’s no longer royal”.
A potential failing of his analysis is his failure to make reference to other potential contributors to the split between The Dutch and Dutchess of Sussex and the royal family.
There had been arguments in the Palace over Ms Markles objection as a vegetarian, to meat in food cooked by Palace Maids, and the fact Kate Middleton had once shouted at Meghan Markle in rage for allegedly speaking to her Maids in an incorrect manner. The full background of that tension has never really been made public.
Prince Harry also complained of intense and continuous media scrutiny during the pregnancy of Meghan Markle, leading to Prince Harry eventually announcing he will no longer be accommodating the mainstream media. There have also been reports that the Sussex’s took offence to neither Prince Charles or the Queen intervening with respect to their complaints about the press.
The royal family traditionally do not respond to press stories about royal members, making it conclusive that the Dutch and Dutchess Of Sussex wanted senior members of the royal family to break royal protocol.
Meghan Markle is perceived by royal analysts to be an unconventional woman whose long term goals have always been against royal tradition. Some commentators have said that Meghan’s inclination to break royal tradition was part of Prince Harry’s attraction to Meghan Markle.
Many royalists have frowned at the split of the Sussexes from the royal family, but other fans of the couple have expressed support for their decision.
