Footballer Adam Johnson: My Sentence Is Unfair And Too Harsh

By Sammie Jones-

Shamed former England footballer, Adam Johnson, has lost a Court of Appeal aimed at reducing his sentence.

The sex offender, convicted for sexual activity with a schoolgirl, submitted a challenge against his conviction on the grounds that his sentence was ”too harsh”.

The 29-year-old footballer, through his lawyer, also indicated that his sentence was unfair because the judge wrongfully took into account the fact he was famous and successful, when directing jurors who were deciding his fate in court.
Johnson, jailed for 6 years for sexually touching and grooming his 15-year-old fan stupidly left a trail of evidence through text messages to the under age girl. In one of the text messages, he confirmed her age and made references to sexual activities he had with the girl, whilst asking to further those sexual activities which took place in his Range Rover in 2015.
The young girl was smart enough to keep a record of all their communications, bragged about it in school, until eventually her parents took the steps to ensure the authorities were alerted to the married footballers adulterous and perverted sexual indulgences.

Despite the former Sunderland player being refused leave to appeal his conviction and sentence in July, he cheekily launched a second bid. Three judges rejected the latest appeal and a bid to reduce his sentence. The claim that his sentence was too harsh is ridiculous because as a grown man, he should have known better.
Being famous and successful should not normally be a relevant consideration in a legal world where equal treatment should be a central principle of reasoning, but sending a message to famous people like footballers, who think they can abuse their power, is a sensible goal which the court may have had in mind. The judge said there had been an abuse of trust and he had caused the girl severe psychological harm.

The judge at the time also told Johnson that he would not be seeing his child for a very long time.
