Foolish Essex Man Jailed After Driving Without Insurance And Being Caught With Class A Drugs

By Samantha Jones-

An  foolish man from Essex has been jailed for more than five years after being caught  with class A drugs by police in Suffolk earlier this year whilst driving a car without a license or insurance.

Jamie Marchant, 25, (pictured)of no fixed abode, was foolish enough to have class A drugs in his possession, knowing fully well that he had no license and insurance, which increased his chances of being stopped by police.

He was  stopped in his car by police in the Copdock area of Ipswich in May this year, where a bag filled with cocaine and cannabis was discovered.

After cops discovered Marchant had no license or insurance to be driving, a search of the vehicle he was driving was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act, recovering wrapped bags of drugs hidden in a shopping bag under clothing. He was arrested and charged with intent to supply class A drugs, possession with intent to supply cannabis and motoring offences of driving with no licence and driving with no insurance .

Following his arrest,  he was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and charged for the offences, after which a further  investigation revealed he was also responsible for drug dealing activity in the Norwich area in Norfolk. The discovery led to a separate charge for a further two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, for which he pled guilty, receiving a five year and four month sentence, to run concurrently.

After Marchant was arrested, taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and charged, an investigation was launched into his behaviour and officers found out he was also responsible for drug dealing activity in the Norwich area in Norfolk. He was separately charged for a further two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and pled guilty, receiving a five year and four month sentence, to run concurrently.

He was sentenced on Wednesday, August 24, at Ipswich Crown Court and sergeant Dave Logan from Suffolk Constabulary’s Sentinel team said: “This is another example of how our proactive officers conduct routine vehicle stops and use all of our research capabilities to build grounds to search and uncover organised crime.

“I am pleased to see that the courts have handed a lengthy sentence to Marchant, this should act as a stern warning to others we are yet to catch. Using intelligence to focus our activity and target those causing the greatest harm is essential and we are grateful for the information provided by the public that helps us to do this and we continue to encourage the public to tell us about their concerns.”
