By Charlie CarMichael-.

United Colleges Group (UCG) is to lead further education in 2026 in the Uk after being admitted as a member of the Chartered Institution for Further Education (CIFE) ─ the only chartered body for technical and professional education in the UK.

The group are reputed for moulding post GCSE students into champions of education, and facilitating good employment opportunities  for students who choose to go into full time employment after a vocational course rather than attend university.

Membership of the institution is reserved for organisations with a sustained record of excellence.

UCG’s admission follows careful consideration by the CIFE Appointments Board and Council, which commended the college group’s strong leadership, teaching quality and positive contribution to London’s diverse learning community.

As a member, UCG ─ formed of City of Westminster College (CWC), the College of North West London (CNWL) and the Cockpit Theatre ─ joins a national network of the country’s most respected Further Education providers, gaining opportunities to collaborate, share best practice, and help shape the skills agenda for the future workforce. Students are trained to apply maturity to their thinking and focus, and  embrace the qualities and attributes of employable individuals in the learning attitudes.

One insider told The Eye Of Media.Com: ”UCG is a leader in significantly boosting the education value of school leavers, including those who want to opt for the employment route without immediately going to university. Not all students after GCSE necessarily want to go straight to University, and not all have enough GCSE’s to study A levels.

”But many of those who have at least attempted GCSE’s and passed a few subjects can educate their minds  and be employment ready, making a number of  them suitable for university later as mature students with solid work experience. Which means some may opt to continue in full time employment with sound training and experience, and others may go on to university. A level student wishing to go to university receive a strong motivating education at City of Westminster College or College of North West London.

‘ The  group  collaborate with local and national businesses, ensuring curriculum is relevant and providing work placements (like T Level industry placements) for hands-on experience.
Instructors also bring real-world industry knowledge, making learning directly applicable to future careers.

‘We also have employability-Focused Courses: Programs like T Levels blend classroom learning (80%) with significant industry placements (20%), preparing students for skilled jobs, university, or apprenticeships. Staff actively support learners to overcome barriers, fostering active participation and enjoyment, notes City of Westminster College.

Much of the group’s best practise principle will be incorporated into research next year for the purposes of enhancing the quality of secondary school education in some state schools in the Uk.

Many secondary schools in the Uk already have selfless teachers committed to the academic development of their pupils, but there are a wide range of teaching and developmental techniques that can raise a pupil’s level of enthusiasm and  learning proficiency.

The Chartered Institution for Further Education exists to appraise, recognise and celebrate institutions that demonstrate high achievement, effective practice and exemplary leadership and governance.

Its members represent the foremost providers of technical and vocational training, all of whom share a commitment to delivering the skills needed in modern Britain, promoting collaboration, and strengthening local communities and economies.

UCG’s formal admission was celebrated on December 11, 2025, at a ceremony at Apothecaries’ Hall, London, where the college was presented with its Charter.

Franklin Asante, Chair of the Corporation, United Colleges Group, said: “I’d like to extend my congratulations to the entire United Colleges Group community for the exemplary standards being set in our sector.

Recognition such as this one from the Chartered Institution for Further Education are a testament to everything our college stands for. Everyone in the organisation should be extremely proud of their contributions, and the difference they are making for our learners and the communities we serve.”

Stephen Davis, CEO and Group Principal, United Colleges Group, said: “This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our staff, students and partners. Becoming a member of the Chartered Institution for Further Education underscores our college’s commitment to providing outstanding opportunities that ensure our learners thrive and contribute to London’s economic growth and reputation for innovation.”
