EU Parliament Vote To Stop American Free Visas

By Ben Kerrigan-

The European Parliament has voted to restrict American free travel to EU countries.

The vote follows the fact that the United States still imposes travel visas on five EU countries, Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, Romania, and Cyprus.

The temporal legal restriction on travel from American citizens to EU countries is to commence from this April. Representatives from the EU Parliament say it is designed to promote the principle of ” reprociticy”, in which American and EU citizens are treated equally.

Currently, American citizens are allowed to travel to EU countries without a visa, but EU citizens are forced to obtain visas when travelling to America. The issue was first raised with the American authoeories in April 2014, but no changes have been implemented nearly three years later.

UNFAIR

The one way streak does not appear fair at all, but some experts have warned that retaliation may have financial consequences on the tourist industry in EU countries , and other business sectors. It is hoped a resolution is reached by his summer, but promise of such resolution will be necessary to prevent the waiting friction over travel visas between America and EU countries.

A press release was circulated by the European Parliament announcing the impending plans for legal restrictions to be placed on American citizens travelling to EU countries. This may be the start of tense relationships between the U.S and the EU, but common sense demands that it be addressed sensibly.
