Essex Man Jailed For 8 Weeks Because Children Missed School For A Year

By James Simons -

An Essex man has been sent to jail because his three sons did not attend school for a whole year. 53 year old Edward Williams was sent to jail for 8 weeks for failing to ensure his children  went to school for a whole year.

Williams was actually jailed last week, but the story was only covered in the media today. The local Essex Echo Newspaper and The Daily Mirror.

The mother’s children,  35 years old Christina Polley, only last week was released  from an 8 week jail sentence for the same offense.

Southend Magistrates Court said the requirement of ensuring they went to school is the most basic requirement.

The eye of media.com exclusively spoke to the children’s mother, to find out why the kids did not go to school.

She said ” We did our best to urge them to go to school but they refused. What cam we do if they refuse to go, unless we physically drag them to school”?

Southend-on-sea in Essex has its fair share of nuisance children with misbehavioural problems.  Many are a handful for their parents, who simply can’t cope.

Skipping classes and hanging out with children of similar rebellious attitudes is common place in Southend. There are other boroughs of the country with a similar history, but this part of the country is one that has come to our attention.

The school in question is Cecil Academy in Southend, one about which  the eye of media.com has commenced an investigation of our own.

Polly’s children have now begun to attend school, and have agreed to give the eye of media.com access to information about how they perform. We have also offered them free access to tuition in order to ensure they get on well at school.

The eye of media.com spoke to one of Polly’s teenage daughters, who we.cant name because of her age.

When asked why she had not gone to school for a whole year, she told the eye of media.com ” because school is sxxxx.”

The young teenager, who has the innocent face of an angel,  went ahead to name a teacher she does not like, citing this as one of her reasons for missing school.

An alarming fact is that for a whole year,  none of the authorities were able to intervene and ensure the children attended school. It seems a shame that their parents were sent to jail for the rebellious attitudes of their children.

The court imposed a jail sentence as a warning to them, and also to serve as a deterrent to other parents who may negligently allow their kids to miss school.

But what more the parents could have done to change the situation, will be a subject of our investigation.
