A North Sea platform about 240 miles from Aberdeen has also been shut, removing all 159 staff. The closures are set to put pressure on parents who would otherwise be working. The decision to close all primary and nursery schools came at short notice, forcing many parents to make improvised arrangements to have their children safely at home whilst they go to work to continue to earn for their families.

28 year old Amanda Moore told Ther Eye Of Media.Com that ‘many parents are having to hire baby sitters to look after their children whilst they are work. ”Some of us have to work despite the weather, but we cannot keep our young children at home alone without adult supervision. Some of my friends who can’t afford to hire baby sitters are having to take time off work themselves. We have to remember this is the Christmas season, and many of us already have huge financial commitments and can’t afford the extra money to hire baby sitters but I have had to bone up for it”.

The effect of the bad weather in leading to school closures is nevertheless an opportunity for children to do more school work at home, though only children who are that focused will seize the opportunity to do so.  Serious parents will set work for their children at home to keep them occupied.
