Disgraced Former MP Jared O’Mara Is a Sad Reflection Of Powerful UK Men

By Sammie Jones-

The revelation that a disgraced MP had to resign for mocking gay and fatties, and joking about beating up women is a tip of the iceberg.

How such a person could become MP in the first instance is anybody’s guess. Jared O’Mara is reported to have also wrote online several years ago that Girls Aloud should sack Sarah Harding and the other four members could ‘come and have an orgy with me’. He also reportedly claimed that singer Michelle McManus only won TV’s Pop Idol ‘because she was fat’.,

The 36-year-old is a disgrace to MPs, and makes one wonder how many other Mps there are with warped attitudes to people. If an Mp can behave like that, what can we expect of other highly placed individuals who are not in the public eye? Far worse for many of them, we can guess! The Metro(add link) reported that O’Mara ousted former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg to become Sheffield Hallam MP in June, but O’Mara’s discriminatory and insensitive words are a shocking shame for one who wa sonce called an MP. His resignation from his role on the women and equalities select committee is most welcome. How on earth he ever got that post is anybody’s guess. Why was his background not properly checked before he was appointed with that post?
The fallen ex MP said: ‘I understand why the comments are offensive and sincerely apologise for my use of such unacceptable language. I made the comments as a young man, at a particularly difficult time in my life but that is no excuse.’
Mr O’Mara was stupid enough to make the remark about Girls Aloud in 2004 on a web forum hosted by the Drowned In Sound music website.
His added comment that it would be no great loss to the music world if jazz star Jamie Cullum was ‘sodomised with his own piano’ and ‘died of a sore arse’.

The Guido Fawkes blog quoted claims O’mari once performed a song with lyrics that went: ‘I wish I were a misogynist, I’d put her in her place, I wish I were a misogynist, I’d smash her in her face.’

The shamed MP is also believed to be behind posts on a fan site for singer Morrissey that referred to gay men as ‘poofters’ and ‘fudge-packers’.
One post from ‘gingerjared’ said: ‘I find it funny how some homosexuals think they have the monopoly on being subject to abuse, they should try being Ginger AND Disabled!’ His use of the conjunction ”on” after monopoly was wrong, he shoukld have said ”over”. So, the former MP doesn’t even have his grammar right.

In his comments about McManus, he added it was wrong to ‘deify fatties’, adding: ‘There is nothing noble or admirable about glutting on loads of fatty foods.’

The Metro also stated that O’Mara revealed he was single and ‘open to offers’ earlier this year, and that he had changed since he made the comments from 2002 to 2004. Those are easy words for anybody caught red handed to make. The reality is that once an individual is caught making such appalling remarks, they should never be given the benefit of the doubt of having changed. If an Mp could act so shamefully, it begs the question of what we should expect from other powerful men in high positions. If an MP can be so homophobic and misogynist, we can expect a lot worse attitudes from other highly positioned individuals in society. Fortunately in this case, the shameful former MP has been caught out and exposed. There are many more who are equally bad or even worse, who have not yet been detected. The eye of media.com strive to catch and expose such idiots who are not fit to occupy the positions they hold.
