Detectives Investigating Deaths Of Four Killed In Oldham Mill Blaze Arrest Two

Detectives investigating the deaths of four people following a fire at Bismark House Mill, in Bower Street in Oldham have arrested two people, it has been confirmed today.

The remains of four people were found in the wreckage of a huge mill fire have arrested by demolition workers at Bismark House Mill in Oldham, which burned down on 7 May.

On Wednesday one of the victims was identified as missing Uoc Van Nguyen.

The arrested men were also held on suspicion of offences relating to drugs and organised crime.

Greater Manchester Police said they were brought into custody after raids on two properties.

Warrants were issued at two properties in the Oldham area this morning (18 August) and two people were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and drugs and organised crime offences.
A few days prior to that, four Vietnamese people were reported missing to GMP and it is now believed there were inside the mill when the fire broke out.

The remains were found by demolition workers at Bismark House Mill in Oldham, which burned down on 7 May.

Greater Manchester Police said they were brought into custody after raids on two properties.

One set of remains has been identified as belonging to Uoc Van Nguyen, 31, from north Vietnam.

Uoc Van Nguyen, 31, had been in touch with his wife until 7 May when he told her he was in a mill,  according ti police.

Duong Van Nguyen, 29, told his family he was living in an “abandoned house”.
Mr Van Chu, 39, arrived in the UK in 2019 and was also in contact with his wife and children until 7 May, but his family had not heard from him since then.

Mr Thanh Le, 21, arrived in the UK in January and last contacted his family on 4 May, when he said he was living in a derelict house in “Dam” – believed to be Oldham – and looking for work.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Davies, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families in Vietnam. They are being fully updated and supported by specially-trained officers, as we try to find the answers we need and they deserve.

“These arrests are part of our enquiries to establish why Uoc and three other, currently unidentified, individuals were in the mill during the fire. We are making progress but our investigation is very much ongoing.
