Deontey Wilder Says Dillian Whyte And Hearns To Blame For No Show

By Tim Parosns-

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has blamed Dillian Whyte and Eddie Hearns for the no show world title fight between them.

Wilder has signed to fight Louis Ortiz on September 28, then Fury after that on a date yet to be set.Wilder  said he has given Whyte  numerous opportunities to fight for the WBC belt , but the Londoner did not take the appropriate steps

“At the end of the day, Dillian Whyte could’ve been given that opportunity,” Wilder exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I told Dillian Whyte, I gave him two options. I told him to sign with the PBC (Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions) when he came from over here network shopping or whatever he was over here doing. So I told him, ‘yeah just sign with us, a one-fight deal. Then no problem we’ll get that fight on.

“We can get it on, I’ll give you that shot’. But that was one time

“Then I told him to fight Luis Ortiz. ‘You fight him and you got my word, you got me’ – I said. And everybody knows when I speak, that’s my word, that’s my bond and I don’t go back on it.

“That’s why when I say things, I own up to all responsibility because I mean what I say. I mean it and I told you, ‘you got it if you beat Ortiz’. What did he do? He didn’t want to fight him.”

Speaking to World Boxing News, Wilder added that he told Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn that he would fight Whyte if he was guaranteed a fight with Anthony Joshua immediately after. That obviously didn’t happen either.

“I don’t want people to feel sorry for him I really don’t. I know I came out and said it’s a shame with what’s going on. But it’s a shame what’s been going on because of his own actions.”

“I want to clear that up. It’s because of his own actions. He allowed himself not have this opportunity because he had three times, really four.

Whyte has a very tough fight against unbeaten Oscar Rivas on July 20, and a victory will make the WBC look even worse if they don’t grant him a mandatory shot at Wilder. A rematch between Wilder and Tyson Fury will take priority with the WBC,  who have already sanctioned the fight. It is also and one the fans will rather see. In the meantime, Whyte will have every reason to expect to  by now be entitled to have a shot at the WBC before Fury’s rematch with Wilder, but will have to accept that he will only ge ttit after that.
