Deontey Wilder: I feel Like A killer Training In the Military

By Tim Parsons-

Deontey Wilder says he feels like a killer, as he prepares for his showdown against Britain’s Tyson Fury. The  American is been in tough preparations for what could be his hardest test to date  and believes he will reap the rewards of a hard training camp come fight night.

Wilder arrived in Los Angeles, along with trainer Jay Deas, where he held a packed media work out at Churchill Boxing Club in Santa Monica on Monday

He said: ‘I’m feeling wonderful. My mindset has changed, my body has changed, I feel like a killer. I’m transformed into a killer.’ As well as his and Fury’s undefeated record, the coveted WBC world championship will also be on the line when these two heavyweights collide in Los Angeles next month.

Wilder likened his preparation for the bout to that of a soldier in the military, who knows “they’re going into dangerous territories” and have to “be prepared”.

The 33-year-old added: “When it’s time for fighting and I’m risking my life, I turn into the Bronze Bomber. When I’m in the ring it’s a different thing than when I’m just Deontay Wilder.”
“I feel like I’m at my very best right now. Mentally, physically and emotionally I’m ready to go. Everything is perfect. I just want to get in the ring and show action. Tyson Fury doesn’t know what he’s gotten himself into.”

Wilder’s menacing words show a state of mind  ready for destruction of Fury who is about to pay the ultimate price for being so corky against a man who has won all 40 of his fights, with 39 coming by way of knock out. Fury has discredited Wilder’s opponents, calling them ”tomato cans”.

He has also referred to the unbeaten American as a bum, a disrespect that will put Wilder in a very hostile mood unless he wants the new tag to follow him after a defeat to Fury. Fury is expected to come in two stone heavier than Wilder and in very fit condition as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career. He will be mobile, technical, and try to outbox Wilder with his rangey jabs and unorthodox movements, mixing it when necessary.

If Wilder corners Fury and lands his fists with killer instincts, Fury will be out for the count. Fury will have to continuously out box Wilder and weaken him enough to stop him. With a strong mental state and fit body, he can achieve this if he throws more punches than Wilder and keeps him at a distance. If he fights anything like his last two fights, he will face a humiliating defeat in the hands of a powerful puncher like Wilder who is thinking like a killer.
