Cyber Attack Against Australia Connected To Exclusion Of 5G Network

By Ben Kerrigan-

A Cyber attack against Australia is  being connected to  a previous ban from Australia’s 5 G Network.

The attack  is believed to be revenge for a ban imposed on Huwei  from Australia’s 5 G Network, experts believe.

The Australian prime minister said Australia’s government and institutions are being targeted by ongoing sophisticated state-based cyber hacks.

Scott Morrison said the cyber attacks were widespread, covering “all levels of government” as well as essential services and businesses.

Mr.Morrison did not identify a specific state actor, but allayed many fears when he said no major personal data breaches had been made.

Mr Morrison said the increasing attacks have happened over many months, and he wanted to raise awareness for businesses to improve their defence

The Prime Minister is believed to have instructed for plans to be drawn up to scrap China’s involvement within the next three years.

The U.S are also pressurising Britain to axe its links with Huawei, which it has deemed a “national security risk”.

One of the suggestions is that the motive behind the attack could be an attempt to steal information on Australia’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mea Australian PM said “Australia doesn’t engage lightly in public attribution” but added that he couldn’t control speculation about who was responsible for the cyber campaign.

Bad Terms

Beijing and Canberra have been on bad terms ever since Australia called for an inquiry into the origins of coronavirus in March.

China retaliated by slapping an 80 per cent tariff on Australian barley and discouraged tourists from visiting Australia.

“It might be a bit of rattling of the cage and reminding us that we have some vulnerabilities and we could end up with some heavy costs that we really don’t want to think about.”

Experts have however pointed their figures at the Communist giant – with some speculating the attack may have been linked to Australia’s decision to ban Huawei from involvement in its 5G network in August, 2018.
