Brits Facing Travel Crises To EU Countries In Wake Of Brexit And Covid Strain

By Martin Cole-

Brits are facing a travel crises to EU countries following a combination of Brexit and Covid restrictions.

A number of Brits have reported being refused entry from the UK to Sweden and Spain  and held at an airport in a poorly heated room

Airlines  across many European countries  have been refused documents previously acceptable as valid proof of Britons’ status  in Spain, Italy and Germany.

British nationals residing  in EU countries who have the new residence card or  existing residence card should be able to able to enter European countries without any complications, yet many Brits are not able to benefit from a privilege they wants enjoyed.

The Uk independent reported that nine Britons trying to return to Spain from London on Saturday were stopped from flying after being told at Heathrow Airport that their green-coloured certificate of EU citizenship with a foreign national identification number issued by Spain was not valid.

UK travellers have also encountered difficulties  entering the Netherlands following the end of the Brexit transition period.

The obstructions are a disappointing sign than many European countries are trying to punish the Uk for leaving the EU by making things difficult. Requirements for Covid test results are basic in these times, making inconveniences an inevitability for those who travel to EU countries and many other countries without a Covid test .

The reports of obstruction for those travelling to EU countries legitimately calls for urgent intervention by the British government, otherwise leaving too many people in serious problems.

Those refused entry to EU countries illegitimately must be reimbursed their ticket money plus compensation.

Dutch Boarder

The Dutch border  legitimately, turned away 10 British nationals since 1 January, after the UK officially left the European Union, reports broadcaster NOS.

New coronavirus rules dictate that passengers arriving from non-EU countries will be permitted entry into the Netherlands only for essential reasons, not for leisure travel.

“They all had a negative PCR test,” a border police spokesperson said of the 10 Britons, “but had forgotten the basic rule – that they need to have an urgent reason to come, such as work or serious family issues.”
