ANGELINA JOLIE: HOW I CONFRONTED THE RISK OF CANCER

BY CHEMELLE RICE

“I know my children will never have to say: “Mom died of ovarian cance

After genetic testing, the daughter of John Voight has discovered that she carries the BRCA1 ‘faulty’ gene. This specific BRCA1 is different to the BRCA2 as it generally manifests itself on the female reproductive organs. The symptoms of BRCA1 is generally manifested on the ovaries and the breasts of a woman. This genertic defect is one that sends its patients in and out of hospital every few months; its hereditary link often goes further down the genes, Jolie’s doctors estimated that the “Salt” actress had quite a high risk of developing breast cancer at a large 87% chance of development. The wife of Brad Pitt also had a 50% chance of ovarian cancer in her lifetime unless she underwent drastic surgery.

“I went through what I imagine thousands of other women have felt. I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn’t live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren,” she stated.

MASTECTOMY

The mother of six had both of her breasts removed back in 2012 to cut her risk of breast cancer after receiving the news that she was at a high risk. The star wasted no time removing her assets as she literally went under the knife immediately. The “Hottest Women on Earth” and original Lara croft gave us the passenger seat during her experience and become an instant inspiration to Millions overnight- who fear such a drastic operation for removing what we’ve lived with our whole lives. Angelina told Eye of Media

“It is not possible to remove all risk, and i will always be prone to cancer. I think everyone has a predisposition to cancer, it just takes one thing to trigger it. I always seek natural ways to strengthen my immune system. I feel feminine, and grounded in the choices I am making for myself and my family,”

Men and Women who inherit the faulty BRCA1, whether or not they go on to develop cancer themselves will still have a 50:50 chance of passing the gene on to their sons or daughters.

Support is vital in these situations which Jolie is not short of, hubby hunk Brad supports her every decision: The “Wanted” Actress kept us in the loop with snippets from her very own personal diary.

Angelina’s Surgery Diary

Angelina kept a diary thorughout the duration of her very difficult experience. Her diary is moving in its entirety. In it she writes:

“I had been planning this for some time. It is a less complex surgery than the mastectomy, but its effects are more severe. It puts a woman into forced menopause. So I was readying myself physically and emotionally, discussing options with doctors, researching alternative medicine, and mapping my hormones for Eestrogen progesterone replacement. But I felt I still had months to make the date”.

“Then two weeks ago I got a call from my doctor with blood-test results. “Your CA-125 is normal,” he said. I breathed a sigh of relief. That test measures the amount of the protein CA-125 in the blood, and is used to monitor ovarian cancer. I have it every year because of my family history. But that wasn’t all. He went on. “There are a number of inflammatory markers that are elevated, and taken together they could be a sign of early cancer.” I took a pause. “CA-125 has a 50 to 75 percent chance of missing ovarian cancer at early stages,” he said. He wanted me to see the surgeon immediately to check my ovaries”.

This lady is undoubtedly an inspiration who has inspired men and woman worldwide to pursue their checks and not live in fear. Only months after airing her very own produced movie “”Unbreakable” she has proven herself to be exactly the same! We salute her bravery. Her story is testament to the fact that with determination and strong will, any problem can be overcome. We at Eye of Media wish her the speediest of recovery recovery.
