Jada Smith: Tupac Suffered From Alopecia But Kept It Quiet

By Aaron Miller-

Jada Pinkett Smith, a close friend and confidant of the legendary  Tupac Shakur, has revealed that the late rapper silently suffered from alopecia, the autoimmune disease that causes unpredictable hair loss.

The actress and talk show host, who has been public about her own battle with alopecia, shared this startling insight in a recent PEOPLE cover story. The revelation not only uncovers an aspect of Tupac’s life that was previously unknown to the public but also highlights the challenges of addressing such health conditions during a different era.

Jada Pinkett Smith has been an outspoken advocate for alopecia awareness since revealing her diagnosis with the condition in 2018. She has used her platform to educate and destigmatize alopecia, a condition that affects as many as 6.7 million people in the United States, according to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.

It turns out that Tupac experienced symptoms of hair loss similar to Jada Pinkett Smith’s. She recalls that Tupac’s struggle with alopecia began around 1991 when he was arrested for jaywalking by the Oakland Police Department in California. Notably, Tupac later filed a lawsuit against the police department related to the incident, which was eventually settled.

“After he was in Northern California with the police officers that beat him up, he started losing his hair. And his alopecia patterns were far more extreme than mine,” Smith remembers.

Jada Pinkett Smith speculates that this silence was a response to the societal pressures of that era. “I don’t think Pac ever talked about his alopecia, but he also looked really good with a bald head,” she noted. “But that was during a time and during an era that you wouldn’t — he just wouldn’t talk about it.”

Jada Pinkett Smith and Tupac Shakur’s friendship dates back to their time at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland when they were teenagers.

Their close bond has been well-documented, and it was further explored in Tupac’s 2017 biopic “All Eyez on Me,” where Kat Graham portrayed Jada Pinkett Smith.

The revelation of Tupac’s silent battle with alopecia by Jada Pinkett Smith offers an intriguing glimpse into the complexities of celebrity life.

Two weeks ago, Duane “Keffe D” Davis was charged with Two Pac’s murder in 1996, which took place after a Mike Tyson fight.

Davis has long been known to investigators as one of four suspects identified early in the investigation. He isn’t the accused gunman but was described as the group’s ringleader by authorities in Nevada.“

Duane Davis was the shot caller for this group of individuals that committed this crime,” said Las Vegas police homicide Lt. Jason Johansson, “and he orchestrated the plan that was carried out.”
