Phillip Schofield is reportedly holding a bedside vigil for his mum, who is seriously ill. It comes after she helped him through his “darkest moments”.

The 61-year-old fled to Newquay where his mum lives, in the wake of the catastrophic fallout from his shock affair confession and ITV exit. Schofield’s mum Pat has been treated for an unknown condition for several days, according to reports.

Pat has suffered double family drama following her two son’s predicament, first that of Phil’s scandal , and the horrifying   child sex charges and prison sentence of her second son, Timothy. It is understood that Pat is now back at her Cornwall home following a stay in hospital.

Phillip’s brother Timothy was sentenced to 12 years in prison for child sex offences.

Timothy had denied all 11 offences, which included making a child watch sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual activity with a child.

One source has told The Sun: “Given the stress Phillip has been through in recent weeks, this couldn’t have come at a worse time for the family. Given that his mother was the woman Phillip turned to in his hour of need, her illness is a particularly cruel twist of fate.”

The source added: “He adores his mother and the whole family is trying to remain hopeful and keep faith that Pat will make a full recovery.”

The public shaming of  family members can have far-reaching consequences, not only for the individuals directly involved but also for their loved ones.

The potential mental and physical impact  on Schofield’s 87 year old mum of witnessing her sons openly disgraced for sexual misconduct  cannot be understated.

With one son imprisoned for sex abuses and the other exposed for infidelity with a younger man, the weight of these events can place an enormous burden on the mother’s emotional well-being and physical health. In this article, we will explore the potential effects on the elderly mother and emphasize the importance of providing compassion and support during such challenging times.

Nhs analyst Amber Smart said: ”The public shaming of two sons can inflict severe emotional trauma on the elderly mother. The shame and guilt associated with their actions may lead to feelings of embarrassment, sadness, and helplessness. Witnessing her sons’ reputations tarnished publicly can cause significant distress, impacting her overall emotional well-being and potentially leading to anxiety, depression, or even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

”Public shaming often leads to social isolation and stigmatization, which can be particularly devastating for an elderly individual. The mother may face judgment, criticism, and ostracization from her community, friends, and even extended family. The shame associated with her sons’ actions may result in social withdrawal, leading to loneliness and feelings of abandonment. It is essential to provide her with support networks and foster a sense of belonging to mitigate the negative impact of social isolation.

Stress-related conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular issues, weakened immune system, and sleep disorders may arise from the psychological stress.

Professional medics say the chronic stress experienced due to her sons’ public scandals can have a detrimental effect on her overall well-being and potentially accelerate age-related health decline. Prioritizing her physical health through regular check-ups, exercise, and healthy habits is crucial during this challenging period..

Researcher and educator, Joshua Hopwood said: ”The public shaming of her sons may cause the mother to question her own identity and purpose. She may grapple with feelings of guilt, shame, and a diminished sense of self-worth.

”Providing compassionate support to the elderly mother is crucial during this challenging period. She may benefit from professional counselling or therapy to navigate the complex emotions associated with her sons’ public shaming. Family members and close friends should prioritize active listening, empathy, and non-judgmental support. Creating a safe space for her to express her feelings, fears, and concerns is vital for her healing process.
