The case will attract public attention because the police are generally not supposed to press charges without a high likelihood of a conviction.

‘The Hayemaker’ was ordered to return to Westminster Magistrates Court for the trial on September 9 and warned that if he didn’t, he will face jail.

Haye was once Britain’s main heavyweight star after his transition from cruiserweight to heavyweight following a succe3ssful campaign at cruiserweight.

Haye held three of the four major belts at cruiserweight, his most famous win coming against Enzo Maccarinelli in 2007 when he unified the cruiserweight titles by knocking out his rival in two rounds.  He decided to move up to heavyweight to test himself more.

In 2009, he beat Nikolai Valuev over 12 rounds to win the WBA heavyweight crown in a surprising victory at the time. He defended his belt against John Ruiz and Audley Harrison before losing comprehensively to Wladimir Klitschko. After that defeat he beat Derek Chisora in a grudge match at Upton Park in six rounds in 2012.
