The world’s biggest Primark has opened its doors in Birmingham featuring water fountains, charging points and recycling areas and features a pizza restaurant, a beauty bar and even a Hogwarts Wizarding World.
Hundreds of shoppers joined a large queue to enter the store which opened just before 10am on Thursday. The £70 million store has five floors and spans 160,000 square feet. It is the biggest of the high street retailer’s 365 stores across Europe and America. An excited waiting public were greeted by dancers who were cheered by staff holding blue Primark balloons and entertained by a vibrant DJ playing a variety of tunes throughout most of the morning.
The five-floor building has three food venues, including a Disney-themed cafe, a Disney shopping area, beauty studio and a Hogwarts Wizarding World section. The outlet will also offer customers the opportunity to donate used clothes and shoes – of any brand – for recycling, and offers a service that prints personalised T-shirts and other garments.
Hours after the brilliant celebration, a power cut caused ruined the show with music to stop playing and the escalators to freeze, making it difficult for some shoppers to reach the shop’s upper levels.
Lights also went out on other floors just hours after the huge store opened its doors in Birmingham this morning.
Around 5,000 people are expected to descend on Birmingham High Street today and hundreds were seen queuing up for a seat at its new Disney-themed cafe.
“They can spend time with friends and family, eat great food, recharge and have fun, and find everything under one roof, including fashion, beauty and homeware – all at an amazing price.
“We’re proud to bring this great store and everything it has to offer, to Birmingham.”
The store will employ more than 1,000 people.
