Anthony Joshua and Newyork heavyweight boxer, Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller were caught up in a strong confrontation in New York on Tuesday.
Joshua was in the middle of his first face-off with his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin when Miller gate crashed the stage to confront world champion Joshua.
The unbeaten Newyorker has been itching at a chance for Joshua’s crown, but has had to endure months of waiting for Joshua and Wilder to negotiate a failed deal to stage a unified heavyweight fight to determine the best at the division.
Miller, an American heavyweight, jumped onto the stage as Joshua was posing for photographers ahead of his September showdown with Ukrainian powerhouse Povetkin. Joshua at the time had his IBF, WBA and WBO titles in hand during the presentation event in New York, when his attention was drawn to heavy Jarrell Miler.
Miller stormed the stage and began a verbal clash between the pair. Miller was heard saying demanding Joshua to “give them what they want,” in an apparent reference to the aborted fight with Wilder previously expected to take place this year, 2018. Joshua angrily responded ” who you fxxxxxx to. Shut the fxxx up and get off the stage, you bxxxx”. ”I’ll slap you, have some respect”. The confrontation threatened to get out of hand until Hearn came between the pair.
“People talk about me, then see me face-to-face, and they still want to talk,” Joshua later told Sky Sports News- the Uk channel that supports Joshua’s career. “I defend my titles in the ring, I’m dedicated, and I just won’t tolerate it outside the ring either. I defend my position. That’s what we do as fighters.
“Anyone is welcome to come and get the smoke. Firstly I will focus on Povetkin but you never know what the future holds.
“There is always someone clucking around my feet. I have to kick them back down, and keep them humble.”
The world heavyweight champion was in New York for the launch of DAZN, the streaming site which will provide Sky Sports with 16 new U.S fight nights.
