Former Mike Tyson trainer, Teddy Atlas has called for Anthony Joshua’s team to be arrested if they take Wilder fight. Atlas was commenting on the prospect of a Deontay Wilder fight on Sirius XM Boxing’s Radio show on Monday.
Atlas expressed his view that Joshua needs to take his mandatory defenses, and do everything in his power to avoid the big-hitting American. Alexander Povetkin, is currently in the mandatory position to fight for Joshua’s four belts, but has expressed an interest in facing WBC champion Wilder first in a unification fight. Talks between Joshua and Wilder’s team are ongoing, but both camps have not yet finally sealed a deal.
The venue of the fight has been disputed, because Joshua prefers the fight to take place in America, whilst Wilder’s team want the fight in the U.S where some of the biggest fights in heavyweight history have taken place. The two camps are weighing up the options, but Wilder’s team believe whoever puts the money up for the fight should deserve the right to stage the fight. ” Wilder’s coach, Jay Deas told The Eye Of Media.Com: ” whoever puts the money down gets the right of venue. This is expected. I think Joshua wants to prove he is the best in the world, he need this fight to do that. Wilder believes he is the best in the world, and is ready to prove that.
We had the best four heavyweights in the world meet when Anthony Joshua fought and beat Joseoh Parker and Wilder beat Louis Otiz. The natural progression is therefore for Antony Joshua and Wilder to meet to determine who the best heavyweight is”
INTEREST
Interest for the fight is high, but Atlas says Joshua’s team would be mad to take the fight now, rather than waiting Briton. Eddie Hearns recently suggested Joshua build his profile first in America before taking the fight against Wilder, but the promoter has recently been getting on with negotiations for the fight.
Atlas said ”Wilder can do one thing. He can punch like a son of a gun!
“Why would you risk that if you can fight anybody?
“Joshua’s people should be arrested if they put him in there with him right now! Many British fans expect Joshua to beat Wilder when they meet, and add his WBC belt to his collection. The problem here is that Wilder is very fact and dangerous, throwing punches from all angles with serious intent to do damage. His speed and unorthodox style of fighting could be a big issue for Joshua, but the Londoner should be able to adjust to Wilder’s style if he is serous about beating him. Atlas is right that this s Joshua’s most dangerous fight, and has the potential to crash Joshua’s dreams and push him down the queue list.
High risks make for great fights and occasions, but
