By Aaron Miller-
Computer expert Marcus Hutchins has been told to fetch $30,000 bail or stay in a U.S jail. A Nevada Federal judge told the British computer expert he must pay the large bail sum and also adhere to a list of conditions that include the surrender of his British passport.
23 year old Hutchins will spend the weekend in jail after failing to produce the money on Friday. Hutchins from Devon, uk, was ordered to walk with his hands behind his back a she was headed back to his jail cells. An odd occurence was when Hutchins lawyer, Adrian Lobo, handed the judge a pile of letters from friends and relatives of the clever lad who incredibly stalle the wannabee cyber attack that hit the NHS last May.
GRAND
Mr. Hutchins was on his way back to the UK after attending a cyber security conference in Las Vegas where he is said by friends to have had a ”grand time”. Government lawyer, Dan Cowhig , said Hutchins had admitted in an interview writing the code for the kronos malware programme which he subsequently sold.
The prosecution lawyer added that the U.S government had evidence in which Hutchins discussed splitting the sale of the proceeds with an associate, and later complained about the amount he received. Hutchins strongly denies the allegations against him.
The young British computer expert sounded panicky when he spoke , clearly awed by the obvious media attention his arrest has received. He genuinely looked scared and worried. If he is innocent, his body language didn’t show it.
One obvious observation is that he is highly regarded by those who know him. He is a promising young man in his field, but his talents will amount to a waste if he is found guilty. Hutchins lawyer will no doubt do her very best to get him out of there untarnished. He will become a much bigger name if he is victorious in this case. Hutchins is in legal terms, a man of good character.
He has never been in trouble with the law either in the UK or the U.S. This will be his first brush with the law. If he is guilty, it may alo be his last.
